Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Account Distribution

    Hi all,

I'm trying to design a process to allow a manager to distribute Customer Accounts to his employees.

From the web page, A manager needs to perform a search against Customer table (easy enough)

Then he needs the ability to assign (1) Employee(from a dropdown) to, a random number of Customers, returned from on the Grid.

So, if the search result returns 100 records, he needs the option to assign....lets say 20...of those accounts to "Tom".

I have a field on the Customers table for the Employee assigned to the account.

After the Manager specifies the number of accounts...then...lets say the Top 20 accounts...should be updated with the Employee name from the dropdown.

of course the manager should have the option to select all.

    Basically an account distribution process.

I attempted adding a dialog component to the same Web page as the grid...with Employee and #Accts as the options. But since the Dialog is not tied to the Grid results...the logic seems to fail.

Any Ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

        Re: Account Distribution

        Scott,
Why don't you just allow an update field on the grid e.g. employee name and then the manager can just go down the search and put the employees number in and submit. This will give the manager the ability to assign employees.

You can also make the same grid but filter one with nothing and then filter the other " If employee field is Blank" show - this way the manager can make sure he has assigned everyone an employee.

          Re: Account Distribution

Sounds good but I think this will be too cumbersome for the manager. If the manager has 50 accounts to assign to (1) employee....then the time to add same employee to each record will be counterproductive. Would like to fulfill the search crieteria and allow the manager to assign (1) employee to all results.

          Thanks...

That is the KISS principle using Alpha grids. Other wise you would need to write code and then have a check box next to the customer in a grid If true then update employee field to the employees number, when submit is hit and you need to put that (code)in after validate section.
