Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Teaser

    I did some work on my Shopping Cart last night. I wanted to add in Freight as part of the checkout total. Because I like to torture myself, I decided it MUST go exactly under the Grid Total, and then provide a Grand Total with Freight added.

    See image one; that is how a Grid normally looks if you include a couple Summary Values, Total and Count in this case. But there is no option to include ad hoc item such as Freight and Grand Total (see image two).

    So the teaser is, how did I get those new rows and dynamic values there (see image two)? There must be a few ways to do this, so I thought a teaser might be an interesting way to explore.

    Hi Steve,

    You probably changed the label of one of those summary value labels to FREIGHT and inserted something like: alltrim(str(23,250,2,",")) at the display format for that field.

    see PIC.

    regards, Ron

      Re: Grid Teaser

      Nope. The freight value is dynamic from a table based on a pre-defined carrier* and the Grand Total is a calculated value of Total plus Freight. The "3 days" text just after the word Freight is also dynamic based on the selected carrier and their specific delivery guarantee. If the shopping cart is empty, the Freight and Grand Total rows disappear.

      *Eventually it will be based on weight and selected carrier, but so far just one value per carrier.

        Re: Grid Teaser

        I'd probably try first by building the string to be inserted, then stritran() to finish the job.

        So that's my guess.

        But because you put this up here, I'll bet you found an even more clever way to do it, so my guess is my guess is wrong. Right?

          Re: Grid Teaser

          Right.

          First I added two Summary Values that I expect I will never use, First and Last, as shown in image 1.

          Then I looked at my page in the browser, found the HTML string that defined those columns in the output. It was:

          First&nbsp;</td><td class="SunsetDataTD" style="text-align: right;" >449</td>

          That string will always be the same except for the dollar amount at the very end.

          Then in the A5W page, added the following code. This code a) creates values for Freight (frt) and Grand Total (gttl). The second part of the code uses stritran_smatch() to replace the string above, with my own calculated string which replaces the label with "Freight" and inserts some text from a lookup, and then replaces the dollar amount also from a lookup to a Carrier Freight table.

          I have to use stritran_smatch() rather than just stritran() because it allows for wildcards and I need to represent the dollar amount with a "*" since I don't know what that dollar amount is going to be.

          Code:
          frt = lookup("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\freightcost",".t.","str(Cost,10,2)+'|'+alltrim(Delivery)")
          if eval_valid("cart_id")
          	gttl = tablesum("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\cart","Cartid="+quote(cart_id),"extension") + val(word(frt,1,"|"))
          	else
          	gttl = 0
          end if

          x_cart.Output.Body.Grid_HTML = STRITRAN_SMATCH(x_cart.Output.Body.Grid_HTML,"First&nbsp;</td><td class=\"SunsetDataTD\" style=\"text-align: right;\" >*</td>","Freight - "+word(frt,2,"|")+"&nbsp;</td><td class=\"SunsetDataTD\" style=\"text-align: right;\" >$"+word(frt,1,"|")+"</td>")
          x_cart.Output.Body.Grid_HTML = STRITRAN_SMATCH(x_cart.Output.Body.Grid_HTML,"Last&nbsp;</td><td class=\"SunsetDataTD\" style=\"text-align: right;\" >*</td>","Grand Total&nbsp;</td><td class=\"SunsetDataTD\" style=\"text-align: right;background:#CDEB8B;\">"+str(gttl,10,2,"$(")+"</td>")

            Steve,

            Would be intrigued if you could get this to work in the OnSummarySectionRender event on the grid itself. have tried
            Code:
            dim prof as n
            prof=e.summaryvalues.ext.total*.2
            e.htmlPrefix="<tr></tr>"
            e.htmlsuffix="<tr>"+prof+"</tr>"
            to no avail.

              Forget that, I have worked it out. This just puts the data above the grid. Would be great if it did what you achieved!!

                Good because I'm still up programming and probably couldn't figure it out if I tried right now!

                  finally worked out how to use the OnSummarySectionRender event of a grid (V10) to achieve a similar effect which can dynamically add any number of additional rows as in attached. The new events make so much difference.
