Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Current record printing problem

    I need to find out how to print just the current record that is shown on my web app screen. I would like to have a button on the screen and when the user clicks on it the report will print filtered by the record that is on the screen. I have tried so many ways but I cannot figure out how to make it work.

    Thank you for your time, you guys are so helpful !!

    Re: Current record printing problem

    I put a tab pane at the bottom of my grid fields. Then I put in a calculated field, "Project_PDF_Report", that I had created as a calculated field in query.

    That was added as a link field after the tab pane. I titled the Tab Pane "Add/Report/Delete" because I have all those functions running there.

    The Link Properties for Project_PDF_Report field are "Static Text", text is "Run", Computed from fields in the Grid, address is "Print_Projects_PDF_ID.a5w?session.ID={Id} and it opens in a new window.

    I created the a5w page with this code:

    <%a5
    'If eval_valid("vLeaseId") = .f.
    ' goto skipreport
    'end if
    Dim vFilter as C
    Dim vOrder as C
    Dim vFilename as C
    vOrder=""
    vFilter="Id="+s_quote(session.Id)
    vFilename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "Projects_PDF.pdf"
    vFilename = report.saveas("Projects_PDF@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\Projects.set","pdf",vFilter,vOrder,vFilename,.f.)
    if file.exists(vFilename)
    response.redirect(session.session_url + "Projects_PDF.pdf?" + time("hms3"))
    else
    ?"Couldn't find the Projects_PDF printout."
    end if
    end

    skipreport:
    ?"There was an error. Unable to print this Projects_PDF Report."
    %>

    Note the vFilter code above; vFilter="Id="+s_quote(session.Id)
    and the Link address portion after the linked a5w page; ?session.Id={Id}

    This is the link between the Grid record and the filtered report.

    I know that the naming I have used could, and should be shorter, but, as a model, this works for me. Good luck.

      Great, thanks ! What is a tab pane and how do I add that to my grid?

        When you are working on your Grid, below the list of "Available Fields" you will see "Insert Layout Command" in blue. These commands allow you to insert "dividers" and areas to distinguish different elements of your Grid when displayed. I use them, for instance, to separate my Contracts Grid into Details, Contractor (name, address, bond, license type and #, etc), Related Projects, Accounting and the like. The Insert Layout Command allows you to merge cells as well so you have the entire address in one box instead of in a box for street, another for city, another for state, etc.

        You can name the tabs to key the user as to functions. That way they have a visual cue that they are moving from one area of functionality to another within the Grid.

        You don't have to use the tabs. I do it simply to guide my users through a set of functions more efficiently.
