Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF reports and graphics

Is there any way to adjust the quality of the PDF reports generated from Alpha5.

All images I add to be part of the reports turn out poor quality when the PDF is generated. When in the report designer and using the Print Preview they look beautiful. I have tried embedding them, calling them from a file and using the image library but it makes little difference. I have used .bmp, .png and .jpg. Still no difference.

Reports look very unprofessional with such poor graphics.

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I actually do try the help file and searching the forum prior to asking a question. Frankly the help file is poorly organized and has been ever since V6. It is full of half working code and in dire need of updating. However, if you have a search statement or key words that work better than PDF, PDF quality, PDF settings, Report settings, Report quality, Print PDF, Print quality, PDF functions, Report functions, I would be happy to try it. Or perhaps if you know exactly where in the help file this jewel exists you wouldnt mind sharing the title?

      Best,

        Re: PDF reports and graphics

The graphics in the letter or report come out bad no matter the format (PDF, HTML) and of course RTF does not even include them. Setting quality = High (the only thing I have been able to find in help which is a Printer_Option) does nothing as I suspected it wouldn't but it did not error either.

Thanks. That is a page I have been to before. There is nothing there addressing my question. I may be missing it entirely but I have been through it line by line and link by link and nothing that I can see addresses the quality of the PDF output or the quality of images on the PDF output.

            Please what am I missing?

I am now playing with REPORT.PRINTER_OVERRIDE() but I think it is a dead end.

You are the woman! Your searching capabilities are clearly more honed and than mine.

pSet.JpegQuality="" is what I needed. How these folks find this stuff is beyond me.

                Thank you :-)

Can't be that good at searching seeing as though I had to resort to an old post of mine ;)

I think what I did to find this was set the properties in the desktop/dev for the report, then look at the custom settings file it generated in Documents and Settings/Application Data/Alpha Software etc.
