Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is it possible to load web pages templates

    Is it possible to load web pages templates automatically to the web site?
    Let me explain:
    I have sales people and I would like to give them their web page in the organization.
    SO by signing in and without human interaction, can alpha add a predefine page/template to the web with their name in the html/a5w page title?

    In other words an automatic process where upon the creation of account the salesperson can visit
    www.myweb.com/saleman1.html or www.myweb.com/salesman1.a5w

    I search the forum, but I did not find an specific answer to my question.
    If I missed it, please point to it. Thanks

    This solution depends on what content you want on each sales person's page. If you want a unique page, then this won't work. If you want to tailor a page for each sales person, then this could work.

    I have an application for a Realtor's association which also works for a small association of auto dealers, and in those, I give each realtor/dealer a page with their logo, choice of color scheme, address, and phone, and their list of vehicles/listings. But in reality, these are all the same page. I just pull their individual values out of a configuration file and load them into variables, then display the variables on the page and filter the grids for them.

    If this would work for you, I can describe it further.

        Re: Is it possible to load web pages templates

        This is a bit lengthy, so I'm giving a stripped down version...I can detail any part that you need more help with.

        Let's say you want to display the person's picture and name at the top of the page in a banner and you want to let the salesman pick their own banner color and text color.

        You are probably already set up to get the employee id into a session variable from the ulink value when the user logs on. For this example, I'll call that session.__protected__emid.

        Create a "sales_page" table with the following fields (showing sample data)
        em_id = "12345" (create index em_id on this)
        display_name = "Betsy Smith"
        picture_path = "C:\pictures"
        picture_name = "B_smith" (restrict to one type, say jpg)
        picture_high = 200 (type numeric - height in pixels)
        picture_wide 200
        picture_alt = "Betsy Smith"
        banner_color = "green"
        banner_text = "gold"

        and create a form to enter the data.

        Now create the sales_page.a5w with whatever content you want. Once it is built, go to page source and in the head section (I usually put this stuff above the components) put in an Xbasic script to read these values into variables: Assuming this is a dbf table:

        <%a5
        tbl=table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\sales_page.dbf")
        tbl.index_primary_put("em_id")
        tbl.fetch_find(session.__protected__emid)
        vDisplay_name = tbl.display_name
        and so on.

        Now, we'll create a CSS style sheet to create the banner (If you already have a style sheet, you can put this there instead). This also goes in the head section.

        <style type="text/css">
        #banner {
        background-color: <%a5 ?vBanner_color %>;
        height: <%a5 ?vPicture_high + 30 %>;
        }
        #banner img {
        float: left;
        border: none;
        padding: 15px 30px 15px 15px;
        }
        #banner h1 {
        color: <%a5 ?vBanner_text %>;
        }
        </style>

        Now we'll put the banner, picture and name on the page. At the top of the body section, put

        <div id="banner">
        <img src="<%a5 ?vPicture_path+vPicture_name %>.jpg" height="<%a5 ?picture_high %>" width="<%a5 ?vPicture_wide %>" alt="<%a5 ?vPicture_alt %>">
        <h1>Welcome <%a5 ?Display_name %></h1>
        </div>

        By the way, never go to the wysiwyg screen to see what it looks like. That could mess it all up. Publish and look at it throgh the browser.
        And that's it.

          Thanks Pat, I will try to absorb all that. You make it so simple. I will need time to digest it.
          Thanks again.
