Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    i have this code so far (adapted from steves white paper)

    Code:
    <%A5
    dim msg as c = ""
    dim tbl as p
    session.v_itemid = "000000000004"

    if eval_valid("cmd")

        file.from_blob("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\photos\\" + FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)

    	dta="Image =" + "[PathAlias.ADB_path]\photos\\" + FileToUpload.filename

    	tbl=table.open("[PathAlias_ADB_path][COLOR="Red"]\titems.dbf","itemid="+quote(session.v_itemid)[/COLOR])
    	tbl.change_begin()
    	tbl.Image= dta
    	tbl.change_end()
    	tbl.close()

        msg = "<a href=\"/" + FileToUpload.filename + "\" target=\"_blank\">" + FileToUpload.filename + "</a> was uploaded<br /><br />"
    end if

    %>
    i know the red highlighted code is wrong, but im really not sure how to do this. would appreciate any help. i have looked through the help files and this message board.

      Re: update current record

      A quick search in the help docs yields this- it looks like it does what you're looking for. Be sure that you set the primary index for the table before performing the fetch_find().

      ___________________________________________________
      <TBL>.FETCH_FIND()

      Syntax

      Record_Number as N = <TBL>.FETCH_FIND( Matching_Expression as A )

      Argument
      Description

      Matching_Expression
      An expression used to select a record. The Matching_Expression and the table’s or set's primary index key must have the same data type. Alpha Five will automatically pad the Matching_Expression with trailing blanks if necessary so that the length of Matching_Expression matches the index key length. If the table’s or set's primary index is record number order, then Matching_Expression is the record number that you want to find.

      Description

      The <TBL>.FETCH_FIND() method retrieves the first record in the table or set referenced by <TBL> with a primary index key equal to the Matching_Expression parameter.

      If <TBL>.FETCH_FIND()is successful, the found record is retrieved and its Record_Number is returned. If no exact match is found, a negative number corresponding to the record number of the closest matching record is returned.

      Supported By

      Alpha Five Version 5 and Above

      Example

      This script is on a button on a form for a set in which the inv_item table is a child table. The script opens the product table. It then finds the record that matches product_id in the inv_item table, and assigns the value from the qty_stock field in product to the on_hand variable.

      Code:
      dim tbl_product as P

      dim indx_1 as P

      tbl_product = table.open("c:\data\product.dbf")

      indx_1 = tbl_product.index_primary_put("id_index")

      rec = tbl_product.fetch_find(inv_item->product_id)

      if (rec > 0) then

          on_hand = tbl_product.qty_stock

      else

          ui_msg_box("Record not found", "The closest match is record number " + abs(rec)")

      end if

      tbl_product.close()

        Re: update current record

        i managed to get this done with help from tommy thompson

        Code:
        tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\titems.dbf")
        query.description = ""
        query.order = ""
        query.filter = "itemID='"+ session.v_itemid + "'"
        query.options = ""
        qry = tbl.query_create()
        cnt = qry.records_get()
        tbl.fetch_first()
        while cnt <> 0
        c= c+1
        If c = 1 then
            tbl.fetch_first()
        else
        tbl.fetch_next()
        end if
        tbl.change_begin()
        tbl.Image = dta
        tbl.change_end()
        cnt = cnt -1
        end while
        tbl.close()
