Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: V10 Training - who is going?

I'll be there in the afternoon of the 18th, leaving right after things wrap up on Thursday (driving from LI).

I haven't been to an Alpha get-together in 2-3 years (right before v8 launched) so it will be nice to see everyone again.

        Gary

I was just looking at some of the examples that will be covered next week.

I think the folks attending are in for a treat:)

Re: V10 Training - who is going?

I will not be able to make the class. Will it be simulcast on the web, and/or will it be recorded and made available to everyone?

I wanted to go, but I have to stay home.

            Thanks,
            Lou

Now that would really take a lot of the impetus out of going (and spending a lot of $$ !) wouldn't it??

It would be nice to be able to see the presentations, but if they were to be offered as videos and such, at what price would they have to be to make it fair to those who actually go---and how many would have stayed home to save the $$?? ---well there is the after hours stimulous and the possible get together at Steve's Beer-athon (or something similar he mentioned earlier!)

              :)

Well, I mostly agree with you. I would expect to pay for the recording and/or a simulcast. But really, there is no substitute for going to a class, meeting the product developers and fellow Alpha customers. I've found it to be invaluable to be in the actual classroom.

It's not nearly as good a learning experience to just watch a recording, or even being remote for a web simulcast - if there was one. Although those options are better than nothing. :)

I'm just not in a position to be able to go the class. Thus, I have to ask.

                Regards,
                Lou

                  Steve's Beer-athon
I think it was "beerportunity", which sounds like a few beers over time, each at the perfect moment. "athon" sound more like a lot of beer all at once. A lot used to be a cheap 12er, but I think a lot is more like 2 expensive imports for me now.

where do we go from there?

I am good for a few especially after brain damaging classes...:D

After having signed up, paid, paid for flights etc, I now find I'm unable to attend :( Talk about dissapointment. Was truly looking forward to it and even more looking forward to meeting many of you. I'm hoping something similar will come along soon enough and I can get to meet many of the people who have helped me on here.

                      Have a great time everyone!

REMINDER: Alpha Five Version 10 training! Will YOU be there?

Don't forget our Alpha Five Version 10 training seminar is taking place TOMORROW, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Burlington, Ma. You'll be able to meet the team behind the development of Alpha Five Version 10, and pick their brains. You'll also learn all you need to know to create powerful data-driven Web-based apps faster than ever before.

If you're going to be there, we invite you to join in on the online discussion as the seminar is taking place by Twittering with the hashtag #ajax. Not only will you be able to tap into our brains, but you'll be able to see what other developers are thinking as they think them.

And if you can't make the training seminar, you can still chime in. Keep your eyes on the Twitter trends to see how it all unfolds. See you tomorrow!
