Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Export to xls

    I have a dialogue with the code below in an aftervalidate event.
    I'm trying to give the user the option to save the records.
    What i get is the leads.xls saved in the session folder and the error message below. Any ideas?

    The requested URL /session_folders/927bf431a88f4b99abda4e4fc351c6aa/C:\A5Webroot\session_folders\927bf431a88f4b99abda4e4fc351c6aa\leads.xls was not found on this server.

    export_filename = session.session_folder + "leads.xls"
    a_tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\act_leads")
    query.order = ""
    query.filter = ""
    a_tbl.query_create()
    export.type = 4
    export.names = .T.
    export.file = export_filename
    export.options = ""
    export.field_sep = ""
    export.record_sep = ""
    export.fields = 3
    export.field1 = "issued_to"
    export.field2 = "status"
    export.field3 = alltrim("new_notes")
    a_tbl.export()
    a_tbl.close()
    if file.exists(export_filename)
    response.redirect(session.session_url + export_filename)
    end if

    Re: Export to xls

    I think you need to supply the backslash.

    Code:
    export_filename = session.session_folder [COLOR="Red"]+ chr(92)[/COLOR] + "leads.xls"
    or

    Code:
    export_filename = session.session_folder +"[COLOR="Red"]\[/COLOR]leads.xls"
    There can be only one.

      Re: Export to xls

      Hi Stan,
      No joy with that, very strange,if i drop

      export_filename = session.session_folder +"\leads.xls"

      and

      if file.exists(export_filename)
      response.redirect(session.session_url + export_filename)
      end if

      The script runs fine but without prompting a file save, which is obvioulsy no use other than localhost testing when you can get at the file.

          Re: Export to xls

          Just wanted to add that, rather than performing an export, you can get an xls output by creating a normal report under the Reports tab in Alpha.

          Lay it out the report like a spreadsheet, and run through the process of adding a report to your web app. Then edit "PDF" to be "XLS" and the output will come up for download and open in Excel automatically when you run the report.

            Perfect Lenny, Thank you all.

            Steve,
            we usually use the reporting output but in this instance one of the fields sometimes has several hundred characters in it and the report can't cope with the size.
            Using the export rather than report gives a clean single row output per record even though its a mile long!!!

                Hi all,
                Moved on a bit from start of post, the code below works fine, i need to filter it for the specific individual, do i do this using an argument in the same way as you would a report, something like.

                dim cuser as c
                cuser = session.filteruserid
                dim args as sql::arguments
                args.set("userid",alltrim(cuser))

                Code:
                export_filename = session.session_folder + "test.xls"
                if file.exists(export_filename) then
                	overwrite_result = ui_msg_box("Warning","'"+export_filename+"' already exists." + crlf(2) + "Would you like to overwrite it?",UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL+UI_YES_NO)
                	if overwrite_result <> UI_YES_SELECTED then
                		end
                	end if
                end if
