Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    setting up Image size

Im working on a grid in v10 which displays some images fron a file reference field

Is there a way to sett up the image size so that all the images are displayed with the same size or even better is there a best fit option somewhere?
    Cheers

    Re: setting up Image size

Attached is a pic from a real estate application. In this case, the pic is a link set to display an image in another control, which is an image file reference field (set as type Image and hidden). This is like in the sample pages. This app is V9, but I've also tried it in V10 and it works the same.

The trick here is to set the size in the image field, not in the link field. In this case, the image is set with an in-line style of
    height: 100px; border-width: 0px;

I did not set the width, because that would have skewed the picture.

Below pic shows how I present my client's logos on their pages using a grid.

In my .a5w header page, I display my own logo like this:
      ? "<img src=http://socialservicenetwork.com/ssnlogo.jpg width=950 height=80 alt=SocialServiceNetwork.com>"

I know this is an older thread but...

Can you force the aspect ratio?

So a wide aspect picture would have a cropped top/bottom if forced into a square image field.

          Re: setting up Image size

I set up my grid as Pat described and it works very well.

My problem is that if a user clicks on the picture, (the mouse pointer turns into a hand when moved over the picture), I get an error message. I guess what's happening is that the link is trying to go somewhere, but has no place to go.

But looking at the link properties for the link item, I can't figure out what to do.

What I would like to do would be to disable the little hand, but I realize that I'm using a link to fix the size of the picture.

Maybe I should do some kind of javascript action that does nothing?

Also; what is a DIV as in "open a web page in a pop-up window or a DIV".

          Thanks

            Re: setting up Image size

I am new and I think people have covered this thread over and over again. However, for me could someone explain a bit more (I have read whaht is here but I suspect being new something is going a miss) specifically what to do to make sure an image in a grid stay they same size and is proportioned. Also so it can be clicked and loaded??

            I thank you in advance!

Here is some thickness. Is a control each grid? To get an image do you need a standard grid then detail grid? How do you hide the "standard" grid and just show the detail? Am I braking? Please help me... as i still cant show an image which I thought wouldc be an easy and necessary thing.

                Re: setting up Image size

I have changed my approach since my post #3.

I first allow the registered users to upload their logo. When they do, the image is uploaded to my logos database along with their userid. (pic1)

Users then redirected to my grid where they can adjust image size to fit their needs. (uID=:uID) This is an update only grid. (pic2)

Below code is in my logo only page (emlogoshow.a5w) that is called in all my other pages via a5w_include("emlogoshow.a5w")

fyi: ssn is not the social security number.

                dim gwidth as c
                dim gheight as c
                dim gName as c
                dim gLogo as c
                dim ssn as c

                dim gName as c = alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\logos","ssn="+quote(ssn),"coname"))
                dim gHeight as c = lookupc("F",alltrim(ssn),alltrim("height"),"[pathalias.adb_path]\logos","ssn")
                dim gWidth as c = lookupc("F",alltrim(ssn),"width","[pathalias.adb_path]\logos","ssn")
                dim gLogo as c = lookupc("F",alltrim(ssn),"name","[pathalias.adb_path]\logos","ssn")

                ? "<center><img border=0 src=http://socialservicenetwork.com/logosshow/"+urlencode(gLogo)+" height="+quote(gHeight)+"width="+quote(gWidth)+"alt="+quote(gName)+"></center>"

                  Re: setting up Image size

Eric thanks for replying. I think your example is different to what I want to do. My image is a field in a table that I am trying to browse as a grid. Each row has an image stored on a table... all i want to do is confine the display of the image to a thumbnail.

                  Regards
