Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing Report(s)

When a user tries to print a report, he or she receives the following error:

Error in event handler code for OnClick event for 'CCMonthlyAttend': File 'C:\a5v9\A5Webroot\session_folders\fbacdd861f0541b292a4848d42196d3f\tempreport.pdf' cannot be created.

Can anyone provide some insight into why what the problem may be?

    Thanks much.

    Re: Printing Report(s)

I have had that type of error if, for whatever reason, the temp....pdf file from a previous report run was not successfully run - it's still there so a new one cannot be created.

    Hope this helps ...

      Re: Printing Report(s)

Existing reports can be overwritten without error, so I would guess that the session folder is no longer present so it cannot create the file, because the folder defined in the path no longer exists.

        Re: Printing Report(s)

        Thanks, Guys.

Do I manually recreate the session folder "fbacdd861f0541b292a4848d42196d3f"?

Or is there some other way to bring back the session folder?

        Thanks, again.

          Re: Printing Report(s)

You should figure out if that is the problem first, is the folder missing. And then, why do you have a link to a report that references a missing folder? Yes you can manually recreate and the report should work. These facts should help:

          - Session folders are deleted along with all content when the session expires.
          - The folder is recreated if the user goes back to your application with the same browser, often even if the browser had been closed, reopened. However folder contents (like the report) will not be recreated.
          - Session ID's are created by the browser, not Alpha.
          - As an example, the session ID and folder for Firefox would be different than for IE, even if the user is logged in through both browsers at the same time. However, security framework parameters will be shared by both 'users'.
          - You cannot create a permanent link in a web page or an email to a report that was created in a session folder, it may not be present.
          - You can use xbasic to force (hard code) Browser A to have can access to a session folder created by Browser B, but typically the session folder 'belongs' to a given user and are not shared.

            Re: Printing Report(s)

            Thanks, Steve. Very helpful.

The report(s) are working sporadically - mostly not, though.

I'm confused at the way the session folder is behaving. Sometimes the folder disappears even when browsers are open and users are logged in.

Any thoughts on whether / why the session folder is acting up?

            Thanks, again.

Perhaps your session timeout is set low. Out of the box, it is set at 900 seconds, 15 minutes. Find the server config and look for session tab.

                Re: Printing Report(s)

I don't think my issue is related to the timeout setting. It's at the default and the issue occurs even when I first log on. It occurs for all reports on my site.

                It's driving me crazy.

I'm grateful for any other suggestions.

                  Re: Printing Report(s)

What is the RAM config of the server. I have seen this before and it was the server just needed more RAM.

Check your sever settings. Hope this helps.

I'd say if you reboot the server I bet it runs reports for a while...

Thanks, Pete. I think you've solved the mystery - the server. I contacted Clive at Zebra. He just rebooted the node last night because of another issue. That seems to have resolved the problem for me, as well.

                    Thanks much.

We also need to update the O/S and the Vitrualization system. We will be doing that tonight.
