Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5 buttons no longer display

I've spent about 7 hours on this now, scouring the forum etc and trying all sorts of different configurations, but after having to reinstall A5 WAS V10 beta on my server, the built in buttons (eg save, find etc) no longer display.

Other buttons, eg calendar are OK but any A5 "built in" button just shows a placeholder. The A5 buttons were working perfectly, previously, they also display perfectly on livepreview on my laptop.

I don't know whether its the latest V10 build or something I'm doing. The path to the image appears to be website/images etc., no images file is created in the webroot on the server, however.

Check Selwyns instrucions on the latest update. He describes images have been moved and some added. Web Control Panel V10 Beta Notes.

Thanks Pete, I had actually implemented those instructions, but its not the same buttons contained in that zip file that aren't working. Its things like the save icon, I think they're all the ones that are appended as a5w buttons.

I'm now also having problems getting client side conditional formatting to update on WAS, again its working perfectly in livepreview.

I think it may be something to do with my publishing process, so I'm going to try an external FTP program; Cute FTP and see if that makes any difference.

I'm having the same issue - no save / undo / checkbox buttons or icons - but it is only when ajax is turned on for the grid component.

Since I the icons display in Live Preview, I know it's an issue of missing icons on the Webroot. I'm not sure why they don't publish.

Can someone point me to where the save / undo, etc. icons should be in the Webroot and where to copy them from...?

          Thanks much.

Thanks Alex, at least I know its not me going mad.

Have updated laptop & WAS with the latest beta version out this evening, and the rejigged tabbed ui showing fine with red x closes on tabs, but still no basic buttons.

I also tried publishing with cute ftp but that made no difference, I think this must be a bug.

              Ian,

To clarify whether we have the same issue:

              - Which buttons are missing for you? (I am missing save, undo, and the delete checkbox.)

              - Can you see the missing buttons in Live Preview? (I can see them in Live Preview, but not when I publish to the Webroot.)

              - Does the issue present itself only when ajax is turned on? (The issue is only evident when I turn on ajax for the component. The save / undo don't apply when ajax is turned off, but the delete checkbox comes back when I turn ajax off.)

If we have the same issue, I can submit a bug report.

              Thanks.

Save, undo (I can see delete) and the chevron that collapses the accordian control

Yes I can see everything as normal in LivePreview

                - Does the issue present itself only when ajax is turned on? (The issue is only evident when I turn on ajax for the component. The save / undo don't apply when ajax is turned off, but the delete checkbox comes back when I turn ajax off.)

If I turn Ajax off the save etc buttons don't show anyway, even in LivePreview, it must need ajax to enable line by line saves. One thing that suggests it is Ajax related however, is that I've used Ajax client side conditional formatting on one grid, it works fine locally but not on my server.

If we have the same issue, I can submit a bug report.

                Thanks.

I reported as a bug, Jerry has come back to me re web security and ensuring A5Images are marked as allowed, I tried this but it makes no difference.

                Cheers

I don't think this is a bug. I suspect it is because you have the Security Framework turned on and you don't have the permissions enabled for the .a5image extension. The images you can't see are not 'physical' images. They are 'virtual' images. I.e. there is not physical file associated with them. All (over 1,000 ) of the internal Alpha Five images are automatically available to you in your Web applications. These internal images are 'virtual' images because the A5 server serves them up without requiring a physical file. These 'virtual' images are all identitified to the server with a .a5image extension.

Here is more information on the .a5image extension and the Security Framework:

On a new security setup, the .a5image extension is allowed by default. However, if the security was initially configured on an early build of V9 (before build 1465 May 6, 2008) or on V8, the option to allow .a5image files was not available. The extension is now listed in the "File types allowed" list in the page permissions dialog, but not may not be selected as the security was set up before it was an option.

Open the Web Security menu, select "Page Security", click "File Types Always Allowed", right click on "*.a5image" and select "Always Allowed". Then close the dialog and republish the security or any page or component.

Re: A5 buttons no longer display

                      Problem solved! For me anyway.

I'd checked all the web security re A5 Image files etc, tried 4 different browsers but still no joy. After Jerry had said to check that the WAS build was the latest (which it was) I started checking all the web server config and noticed two difference to the pictures in the help file:

                      1. On the general tab in page extensions, I only had ".a5w" - the help file also had ".alpha"

                      2. On the sessions tab the "Session Cookie Name" was blank, so I copied the help file picture and inserted "A5W_Sess_Id"

Bingo, all the images appeared again.

Not sure which change made it happen, I suspect the latter, but as its working I'm not going to start meddling with it to find out.

The grid conditional formatting (tried server & client side) still isn't coming thru' to the server tho' it works perfectly in LivePreview but at least one problem is solved.

                      Thanks all for your responses.
