Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Unique GUID & USERID w/multiple registrations via Adm

    Hmmm...
    I require new users to register via a registration dialog. This works fine.

    What I want to do is register several members via my "special" Administrator registration dialog one after the other. I would manually fill some fields, click submit and all the security fields including password and userid are properly filled in the security table.

    When does the GUID get assigned? When the registration dialog is loaded or after the user clicks submit on the registration button?

    I hope to do something simple like: Adm+left(guid,5) where Adm is always constant.

    Password: Adm******
    Userid: Adm******

    Not sure of your whole process, but I've always ensured the GUID variable is EMPTY when adding a user. Security Framework will generate a GUID. If you have this variable populated I suppose if you ensured it was unique it would work. You'd have to specifically do something to alter the value else you will just overwrite each user with the subsequent request.

      Re: Unique GUID & USERID w/multiple registrations via Adm

      Hi Steve,
      What I did was use my registration grid first where I completed certain fields. This grid creates a new record and is redirected to my "special" Administrator new user dialog. This reconditioned dialog is slick. It updates this newly created record with the dialog's controls the way I want as described above but fails to write to the security table. Somehow my created user's table does contain a several character GUID!

      Below is my dialog:
      (My dialog fields are now automatically populated with desired results when the dialog is loaded after the grid)

      Initialize
      dim vCoName as c = lookupc("F",alltrim(session.vCoName),"alltrim(company_name)","[pathalias.adb_path]\users","coname")
      dim vPostnum as c = lookupc("F",alltrim(session.vCoName),"alltrim(usernum)","[pathalias.adb_path]\users","coname")
      CurrentForm.Controls.Userid = "Adm"+ left(vCoName,3)+right(vPostnum,3)
      CurrentForm.Controls.Password = "Adm"+ left(vCoName,3)+right(vPostnum,3)
      CurrentForm.Controls.confirm_password = "Adm"+ left(vCoName,3)+right(vPostnum,3)
      CurrentForm.Controls.Email = "[email protected]"
      CurrentForm.Controls.SecAns = "Sophie"
      CurrentForm.Controls.groups.value = "Employer"

      a5ws_get_webuser_values(CurrentForm)

      CurrentForm.Controls.groups.value=a5ws_get_guid_from_group("Employer",request)

      Validate
      a5ws_Save_WebUser_Values(CurrentForm,request)

      AfterValidate
      Dim UserValue as p
      UserValue.guid = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value)
      a5ws_get_webuser_values(CurrentForm,UserValue)
      dim tbl as P
      tbl = table.open("[pathalias.adb_path]\users")
      query.filter = "company_name="+quote(session.vCoName)
      qry = tbl.query_create()
      tbl.change_begin()
      tbl.Userid = alltrim(Userid)
      tbl.Ulink = CurrentForm.Controls.ulink.value
      tbl.Guid = CurrentForm.Controls.Guid.Value
      tbl.ssn = remspecial(substr(alltrim(Userid),1,2)+substr(CurrentForm.Controls.guid.value,1,15)+substr(alltrim(Userid),3,2)) ' Guid value
      tbl.Password = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Password.value)
      tbl.Secquest = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.SecQues.value)
      tbl.Secanswer = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.SecAns.value)
      tbl.Permissions = "Employer"
      tbl.User_type = CurrentForm.Controls.groups.value
      tbl.Email = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Email.value)
      tbl.Addcreditemail = alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.Email.value)
      tbl.change_end(.T.)
      tbl.close()
      CurrentForm.RedirectTarget = "x_newadm3.a5w?"

      Activate
      pagelist = a5ws_get_page_list(request)
      grouplist = a5ws_get_groups(request,.T.)
      queslist = a5ws_get_security_ques(request)

      ---> CORRECTION! This does write to the security table. Looks like all the above works the way I had hoped.

        Sorry, I 'm not yet up on the new S/F functions like a5ws_Save_WebUser_Values. But that function must return a result, see if you can report the result to the screen or a text file.

          Hello Steve,
          I edited my last post stating that it does work as expected.
          Thanks!

            Eric,
            From your code I can how tbl.ssn
            is valuable,
            But should you really be duplicating the password, SecQues, SecAns,
            As you now have the GUID value , you can pluck these when needed without compromising any security
            -- Just a design thought
            Obs, (A few months ago I was doing something similar)

              Colin,
              Thanks for catching this. I added those fields back when my Alpha knowledge was in its infancy. (I still have a lot to learn!) :) I took them out several months ago in my current registration dialogs. Just didn't in my template, which is now also modified.
