Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List box populated via SQL connection string

    Hello All

    I am trying to find out the necessary code/syntax to populate a list box/drop down box when placed on a form inside an a5w page. I have read the help file but it appears to show how to populate for static choices only, I need to populate mine dynamically based on a SQL query. I have also scoured the message board but had no luck, I probably havent used the correct combination of search words. If anyone could point me in right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

    Barring that, if anyone could tell me how to refer to a dialog component drop down list placed on a .a5w page using the correct code reference/syntax, that would do just as well

    Cheers

    Jason

      Hi Chad

      Thanks for your reply. Absolutely, can definitely use that option, but I'm struggling to find how I can pass the chosen value from the list to the a5w page where the dialog has been inserted. In short, I am using the value to update an SQL table

      tbl=table.open("attachment")
      tbl.enter_begin()
      tbl.Imagefilepath=fn
      tbl.Date = NOW()-30
      tbl.Caseid =
      tbl.Text = attachtxt
      tbl.enter_end(.t.)
      tbl.close()

      If you have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated and eliminate the need for me to reach for the straight jacket. I have been researching this for ages

      Cheers

      Jason

        Re: List box populated via SQL connection string

        you could capture the current form controls value as a session variable then use it in youre insert statement.

        Aftervalidate on the form would be something like this

        dim session.vlistbox as c = ""
        then later
        session.vlistbox = currentformcontrols.vlistbox.value

        then the session variable is set to the listbox value

          thanks for the suggestion. Still no luck, I must be doing something wrong. I should have mentioned that at the moment, the dialog component whilst sitting in an .a5w page, is inside a table just below the navigation menu. Should the dialog component be sitting into the form tags so the currentform code is recognised. I'm sure this is very simple to fix, very frustrating

          Have attached a print screen

          cheers

            Hi I am a little confused maybe its me but you should probably have a page that has just the dialog which has just the one control that is the dropdown list.
            on submit have the page redirect to youre second page that has the rest of the info, or let me know what you are really trying to acheive on the page. sorry its a little vague.
