Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Error not showing

    Hello All

    Steve Wood et al assisted me with getting this code working, but for whatever reason, the error codes are no longer showing as they once did. The code works ie duplicates are prevented from being inserted via a SQL statement, but in both live preview and published mode, the error doesnt show

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Code:
    FUNCTION CanInsertRecord as v (DataSubmitted as P, Args as p, PageVariables as p, Result as p)
    	WITH PageVariables
    		dim t as P
    		dim qdx as P
    		t = table.open("persons")
    		query.filter = "Surname = '" + alltrim(DataSubmitted.Surname) + "' .and. FirstName = '" + alltrim(DataSubmitted.FirstName) + "'"
    		query.order = ""
    		qdx = t.query_create()
    		save_to_file(query.filter,"c:\test.txt")
    		IF qdx.records_get() > 0
    		result.cancel = .t.
    		result.errorHTML = "This person already exists within CDIS"
    		END IF
    		t.close()
    	END WITH
    END FUNCTION
    Thanks

    Re: Grid Error not showing

    Hello All

    Have answered my own question, all web components I have built recently did not have an echo or update section. As soon as I inserted these two sections, the error messages appeared.

    I think this has only been occurring since I downloaded the latest V9 build back in Sept

      Chris;

      What do you mean by echo and update section ?
      where do you insert them.
      The grid is updateable I assume.

      I'm having the same issue and I can't get the error to show?

        Re: Grid Error not showing

        Its Jason actually :)

        Re the components, I found that before I updated to the latest version of Alpha, when I inserted a component into an A5 page, there was the grid, search etc AND an echo and update section. After I updated A5, when I inserted components into a5 pages, the echo and update didnt show, and subsequently nor did my error messages. As soon as you insert them manually, the error message appears

        Hope this helps

          do you know which patch it works with because I went back from 64 to 61 and it still didn't insert them.

            no idea. I was multiple patches behind because I hadnt updated for so long. If it were me, just stick with the latest version and manually add the sections in. Its only a few lines of code

              That's the problem, I did add it, but no luck.
              It validated all validation rules but not the error that is setup in the CanInsertRecords event.

              I tested the same page in ver 8 it works fine.

                Re: Grid Error not showing

                gotcha, I understand. Silly question, but the data you entered definitely should have triggered the code?

                  Re: Grid Error not showing

                  This is what I ended up doing.
                  I created the page on ver 8, copied the source to ver 9, published it and it works.
