Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help on response.redirect

    I can't get the variable to transfer to a linkpage correctly.
    In an updateable grid I have this under BeforeValidateNewRecords:

    DIM GLOBAL mypk as C
    mypk = remspecial(api_uuidcreate())
    datasubmitted.uuid = mypk

    and I have this under AfterUpdateRecords:

    query.filter = "alltrim(uuid) = alltrim(var->mypk)"
    response.redirect("LinkPage.a5w?uuid=mypk")

    When I get the link page, it shows like a text:

    http://172.24.120.41:81/InternetUsers/LinkPage.a5w?uuid=mypk

    I can't get the variable to pickup correctly, what am I doing wrong.

    Thanks for any help.

      Thanks a lot Lenny that worked.
      To pick this variable up in the filter of the report in "linkpage"
      what should the filter be:
      this is what I have

      uuid = var->mypk

      tbl=table.open("[pathAlias.adb_path]\users.dbf")

      query.filter = "uuid = '" + VAR->mypk
      query.order = ""
      filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "users_listing.pdf"
      report.saveas("users_listing@[pathAlias.ADB_path]\users.ddd","PDF",query.filter,query.order,filename,.f.)

      if file.exists(filename)
      end if

      I keep getting an error:
      "Script Error
      Error:
      Amyuni Low Level Print:
      Layout name: users_listing@[pathAlias.ADB_path]\users.ddd
      Layout type: report
      Invalid report filter expression: 'uuid = ''."

        Re: Help on response.redirect

        The best way to get the proper syntax is to use the Genie in a Dialog AfterValidate event. Mimic what you want and the tweak to fit. Your filter makes no sense based on what your URL must be as described in the first post. In the first post your URL has ?uuid=100 or something like that. And so in the linked page, the variable named uuid will be "100", if that was the value in the URL. That variable mypk is not going to exist on the linked page, based on the URL you describe in the first post.

        And you are using syntax not totally appropriate. It's filter, not query.filter, it's order, not query.order and you don't need VAR-> anywhere (although I suppose none of this affects the code, its just not necessary.)

        Debug using

        save_to_file(filter,"c:\test.txt") to see your filter as rendered.

          Thanks steve, so even though this is a grid, not a dialoge you think I can create the same thing in a dialoge to look at the code ?

            Re: Help on response.redirect

            yes the code in the dialog will give you the syntax. But the dialog will use currentform.redirecttarget="" for the redirect, and you need to use what you have, response.redirect().

              if I'm using in the BeforeVakidateNewRecords a DIM GLOBAL MYPK

              DIM GLOBAL mypk as C
              mypk = remspecial(api_uuidcreate())
              datasubmitted.uuid = mypk

              this should be available to all pages as I understand it, why in the link page it tells me variable MYPK is not found ?

              tbl=table.open("[pathAlias.adb_path]\users.dbf")
              query.filter = "uuid = '" + var->mypk + "'"
              query.order = ""
              'save_to_file(query.filter,"c:\test.txt")
              filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "users_listing.pdf"
              report.saveas("users_listing@[pathAlias.ADB_path]\users.ddd","PDF",query.filter,query.order,filename,.f.)

                Re: Help on response.redirect

                No, you are mixing desktop with web. Global doesn't create global variables in the web (other than for Functions on the same A5W page as where declared). The equivelent to global, is session in the webs. Session.mypk = "xyz" would create a variable named session.mypk that would persist for that user, and only that user.

                  I see, that's a big mixup on my part.
