Arriving at form with cleared fields

I have a tabbed form with the following:

Employee General Information
Employee Payroll
Employee Performance

My set is Employee Information 1:M Payroll and Employee Information 1:M with Performance

When I arrive at the form, my first employee's information is already filled in. I want to set the form so that fields are blank, and the user has to fill in the employee id before any information is shown.

How can I do this?

A form is a means of viewing the information stored in a table, generally. You can open a form and immediately start a new record which will have empty fields.

What it sounds like you really want is to open a form with no table fields. On this form you would have one or more variables defined and placed. After entering values into these variables the user would press a button that opened another form with table fields and filter that form to the record(s) that matched the variables from the previous entry.

You could accomplish much the same by displaying an xdialog that prompted for the variables.

I've designed an xdialog box so that the form will open with the appropriate employee's field values shown.

Now how do I make the xdialog actually filter or bring up the employee who's first name and last name is entered on the xdialog?

Substitute your fieldnames for the blue text and your form name for the red text, tack this on the end of your xdialog script.

What if I'm using a set. For instance: The form is based on

Employeeinfo 1:M Payroll
Employeeinfo 1:M Performance

The form has tabs general (employeeinfo table), Payroll (payrollentry table), and Performance (performancereviewentry table)

Which table would I use for table name or can I use the set?

Sorry, I misled and changed my previous post. You don't need the tablename, only the form name. (Assuming lastname and firstname are fields in the parent of the set.)

Thanks, Stan. Yes, they are fields in the parent table (employee info)

One other quick question: Where do I place the dialog box?
Do I create an intermediate form and place it there? Then, my main form will open once the information has been entered by the user?
