Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filter a report based on Multiselect Dropdown and other types

    Hi All,

    I have a dialog containing single dropdowns and textboxes that all contribute to filter data to create a report.

    Code:
    filter = "type = \""+"Issue"+"\""

    if alltrim(vStatus) = ""
    	filter = filter
    else
    filter = filter + " .and. status = \""+vStatus+"\""
    end if

    If alltrim(vIssue_Owner) = ""
    	filter = filter
    else
    filter = filter+" .and. prop_actionee = \""+vIssue_Owner+"\""
    end if
    I need to introduce a multiselect dropdown to become part of the filter. I have looked within the forum but cannot find anything specific to my current problem.

    I did however try adding my multiselect dropdown (vProgramme_Area)...

    Code:
    filter = "type = \""+"Issue"+"\""

    if alltrim(vStatus) = ""
    	filter = filter
    else
    filter = filter + " .and. status = \""+vStatus+"\""
    end if

    If alltrim(vIssue_Owner) = ""
    	filter = filter
    else
    filter = filter+" .and. prop_actionee = \""+vIssue_Owner+"\""
    end if

    [B]If alltrim(vProgramme_Area) = ""
    	filter = filter
    else
    dim progarea as C
    progarea = vProgramme_area.dump()
    progarea = remove_blank_lines(progarea)
    progarea = *for_each(x,"programme_area = " + quote(x),progarea)
    filter = filter+" .and. stritran(alltrim(progarea), crlf(), " .or. ")"
    end if[/B]
    ...but i think i am way out.

    I get the error;

    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    Argument is incorrect data type

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Denis

    Re: Filter a report based on Multiselect Dropdown and other types

    Quotes within quotes must be escaped.

    filter = filter+" .and. stritran(alltrim(progarea), crlf(), \" .or. \")"
    There can be only one.

        Stick a debug(1) statement in the code early and step through to find out where the script stope and errors.

          OK.

          I have confirmed that the code in red (multiselect dropdown) works. I just need to get it to work with other single dropdown filters on the page.

          Code:
          filter = "tbl_issues_log->type = \""+"Issue"+"\""

          if eval_valid("vStatus") = .F. Then
          	filter = filter
          else
          filter = filter + " .and. status = \""+vStatus+"\""
          end if

          [COLOR="Red"]IF eval_valid("vProgramme_area") = .F. Then
          	filter = filter
          else
          progarea = vProgramme_area.dump()
          progarea = remove_blank_lines(progarea)
          progarea = *for_each(x,"tbl_issues_log->programme_area = " + quote(x),progarea)
          'filter  = stritran(alltrim(progarea), crlf()," .or. ")
          filter = filter + " .and. stritran(alltrim(progarea), crlf(), \" .or. \")"
          end if[/COLOR]
          Has anyone done this before?

            I think this is what you want.

            Code:
            filter = "tbl_issues_log->type = \""+"Issue"+"\""
            if eval_valid("vStatus") = .F. Then
            	filter = filter

            filter = filter + " .and. status = \""+vStatus+"\""
            end if
            IF eval_valid("vProgramme_area") = .F. Then
            	filter = filter
            else
            progarea = vProgramme_area.dump()
            progarea = remove_blank_lines(progarea)
            progarea = *for_each(x,"tbl_issues_log->programme_area = " + quote(x),progarea)
            filter = filter + " .and. ("+stritran(alltrim(progarea), crlf(), " .or. ")+")"

              Stan,

              Your help with this one is invaluable. Thank you.

              We are nearly there...

              If i select something in both fields it works fine, but if i only select something in vSTATUS (single select dropdown) I get the following error;

              Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:

              Amyuni Low Level Print:
              Layout name: rpt_Issues_Rep_Mgt@[PathAlias.ADB_Pa...issues_log.set
              Layout type: report
              Invalid report filter expression: 'tbl_issues_log->type = "Issue" .and. tbl_issues_log->status = "01 - Submitted" .and. ()'.

              If i select only vPROGRAMME_AREA (multiselect dropdown) i get a blank report.

              What do you think?

                I would say these lines aren't doing what you want.

                if eval_valid("vStatus") = .F. Then

                IF eval_valid("vProgramme_area") = .F. Then

                Try
                if alltrim(vStatus) = "" Then

                IF alltrim(vProgramme_area) = "" Then

                  Stan,

                  Thanks.

                  I replaced the code as you suggested to;

                  Code:

                  dim progarea as C

                  if alltrim(vStatus) = "" Then

                    Does anyone know why the lines below are causing me to get this error?

                    They are both character fields.

                    vStatus = Single dropdown
                    vProgramme_area = Multiselect Dropdown

                    Code:
                    if alltrim(vStatus) = "" Then
                    if alltrim(vProgramme_area) = "" Then
                    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
                    Argument is incorrect data type

                    I have attached my database which may help solve the problems.

                    I need to be able to select one or many of the options in the report screen. Currently this only works if you select an option in both vStatus and vProgramme_Area.
