Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Patrick - here's some sample code:

    Code:
    <%A5
    dim txt as p
    txt = http_get("http://100.10.10.01/whatever.xml")
    txtbody = txt.body
    '...
    ' you can then work with the string txtbody
    '...
    %>

    Re: XML HELP Please!!!

    Steve
    I was looking at one of your old posts for xml streaming to an url. Once you
    stream to that url how do you get the information out of the reponse object on the other side.
    Thanks for all your help...

    Do you think http_fetch will work? The help says:

    HTTP_FETCH() does not support HTTPS.
    The limitation was removed in V7, as noted in the Wiki: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/HTTP_F...ght=http_fetch

    Hi Steve,

    Could you give an example of the use of http_fetch?

    Doc is wrong, or I don't understand the note. I am using it to get info from HTTPS, and the core of what I have was written by Lenny himself.

    I've done probably a half-dozen gateways like this. So far I haven't found accurate documentation even once.

    Gary,

    No promises, but I signed up as a merchant with this gateway and will attempt to connect, including adding the headers. I use http_fetch() rather than http_post() because it has a specific property for sending headers.

    This company is not quite on the ball. Their API document online has the WRONG URL for testing which is why all my tests failed so far. I also asked, and you don't have to test from a SSL site, normal site will do.

    Re: XML and POST

    Hi guys,

    Well, I am getting very close. Here is the latest email from their tech support dept:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    You are getting a valid response from the server which is great. Please make the following changes and resubmit.

    1- remove the header: <Content-Type: text/xml> from the xml string. This needs to be part of the HTTP headers not part of the body.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    So, my question now is how do I do what they are asking? I thought the header was supposed to be in the xml string but they are saying no. What do I do?

    Gary - can you ask them for a complete sample/example of what they want to see? Seems like much of what you're doing is shooting in the dark.

    Re: XML and POST

    The xsd document starts off like so
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    <xs:element name="address">
    <xs:simpleType>
    <xs:restriction base="xs:string">
    <xs:maxLength value="128"/>
    <xs:whiteSpace value="collapse"/>
    </xs:restriction>
    </xs:simpleType>
    </xs:element>
    .......
    .......
    You have not included the line in blue. Since the error message says that the URI line is null, that could be the problem.
    URI is another name (but slightly different) for URL. The values on the left side of the equal sign may need to be adjusted slightly for your message.

    I do not have a lot of experience with this kind of thing but the one project I have worked on used SOAP messages and there were lots of examples for each type of transaction. I would have thought that the tech support of the destination would have provided you with an example transaction.

    Steve,

    How can I put the double quotes given that the entire line has to be double quoted at beginning and end. I know it can be done, but I have not used the syntax. Could you help with that?

    Any syntax example I find uses double quotes in that first line, not single quotes. Have you tried that or other variations?
