Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web Publishing

    Hello All,

I have published 2 web applications to date. Everything was working 100%

Since then I have updated some web components on the one web application, and uploaded the new changes. Nothing works now. Not even on my LAN. All my settings are good and the same as when I uploaded the previous versions of my web apps.

I can understand if one or two of the a5w pages does not work, but all of them?

I did not change anything on the other web app. Decided to check that one on my LAN, same error(the general internet explorer error when a web page cannot be found). Not even one of the pages will open up.

The best part is that when I test it on my development machine, then it works fine.

Has anyone came across the same type of error?
I am using the latest v8 build.

    Thanks
    Walter

    Re: Web Publishing

(To all) When reporting some kind of trouble and hoping for advice, please be very detailed in your first post. For example, saying a page is not found and nothing works is near meaningless. Describe the environment, where is the server (inside your LAN or hosted remotely)? Describe any anomaly. Copy-past the entire text from any error screen, or provide a screenshot. The page Not Found may or may not include information about the Alpha App Server, and that would help determine server status. For example, here is a Not Found where the server IS running:

    404 Not Found
The requested URL /tracking_timer.a5w was not found on this server.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alpha Five Application Server/8.0 1575-3081 at ATDSSERVER Port 443

Walter, I can't tell from your post if your app (the first one reported) is on your LAN or published to a remote server. And I can't tell if you mean your entire LAN is down for all users doing anything related to the LAN, or just related to the Alpha Five application.

A quick analysis is that you have a communications problem unrelated to the Alpha application.

      Re: Web Publishing

      Sorry Steve,

      This is the situation:
I published the web pages and components to a pc on my lan for testing purposes. The lan is connected and working.
The first page that should open up, is the index.a5w page.
There are various other .a5w pages to view as well.
The web security is not activated at this stage so I can open up any a5w page.
The web server is running and all my settings check out.

When I want to open any published files, I get the following message: "Internet explorer cannot display the web page"

You might be right that it is not Alpha related.
I asked someone else to open the Index.a5w page, and they are able to do so. These files are from the same web application, but is running on our VPS. I get the same error when trying to view the pages from the VPS server.

The same error occurs when I want to view a5w pages from my other web application.

If I open the same a5w pages on my development computer, everything works well.
I am using the same computer to try and view the published files.

Do you have any idea what the problem may be?

      Thanks
      Walter

        Re: Web Publishing

It still all points to the browser/connection on the PC you are using for testing. Check for any Windows Updates, and reboot that computer. If everyone else can view the pages and you can't, then its your computer.

          Walter,

I maybe way off base here. I know you said it has worked before the way you are doing it now. But I have had the same problem with viewing the webpage inside our network. It is an issue with some NAT routers called loopback connections. It has not been mentioned on this board that I can tell. I solved my issues with the following website:

          HTML Code:
          http://www.dyndns.com/support/kb/loopback_connections.html
          Hope it helps,

          Daryl

            Hello Daryl,

            Thanks for the reply.

Thanks, I will try this as I am very desperate at this stage. I have no idea what is wrong with my pc.

            Have a nice day

Walter, following threads is a lot more fun if we find the solution at the end of the "trail". What resolved your situation?

                Hello Ken,

We had a connection problem with the VPS as Steve suggested.

We could view the old version, but as soon as we uploaded the new update, the error occurred. All the files were not properly transferred via FTP.
All sorted out when the connection was fully restored.
