Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Excude many records from a report

    Hi,

    I am trying to place some functionality within a dialog which displays a report but excludes one or many records. Each unique record is identified by the 'issues_id'.

    The field in the dialog where you enter the excluded issues_id's is called vISSNOS and is a character field. An multiple entry in this field could be like this....e.g. SE00001, SE00236, SE00239

    The filter i have which doesn't work is:-

    Code:
    If alltrim(vISSNOS) = ""
    filter = filter
    else
    ISSNOS = crlf_to_comma(vISSNOS.dump())
    filter = filter+" .and. issues_id <> \""+ISSNOS+"\""
    end if
    The error message is

    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    Not found
    vISSNOS.dump method not found.

    If however, i do not enter any text in the ISSNO field, the report shows up fine, but not filtered.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Denis

    Re: Excude many records from a report

    Denis,

    Here's a couple things you can try.

    First, your character variable contains a comma separated list. To use most of the list processing fuctions (look in help under list processing), you need to convert that to a CR-LF delimited list using comma_to_crlf()

    Your filter is only creating one filter element, but you need one for each entry. So, you can use the *for_each() to iterate through them to create the filter, something like:

    Code:

    vFilter = vCo_InList.dump()
    if vFilter=""
     end
    end if
    vFilter = *for_each(x,"Co_Id = " + quote(x),vFilter)
    vFilter = strtran(alltrim(vFilter), crlf()," .or. ")

      Re: Excude many records from a report

      Hi Pat,

      I converted your code for my app;

      Code:
      dim vFilter as C
      vFilter = vISSNOS.dump()
      if vFilter=""
       end
      end if
      vFilter = *for_each(x,"issues_id = " + quote(x),vFilter)
      vFilter = strtran(alltrim(vFilter), crlf()," .or. ")
      I got this error.

      Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
      Not found
      vISSNOS.dump method not found.

      The input field (vISSNOS) is a text box in a dialog, for users to enter the unique issue id's they want to excluse from a report.

      Did i do this right?

          I have now attempted to use a MULTISELECT DROPDOWN to select the records to exclude. This works for one selection, but when i select 2 or more it does not work.

          Code:
          'EXCLUDE RECORDS SELECTED FROM A DROPDOWN
          dim filter as C
          dim appnum as C
          appnum = exclude_records.dump()
          appnum = remove_blank_lines(appnum)
          appnum = *for_each(x,"Rail_id <> " + quote(x),appnum)
          filter = stritran(alltrim(appnum), crlf()," .or. ")
          What have i missed?

            Re: Excude many records from a report

            OK. I tried everything with my limited knowledge. I dropped the dropdown idea and have reverted back to a textbox.

            Code:
            dim aid as C
            dim vFilter as C
            vFilter = "Rail_ID <> \""+comma_to_crlf(Exclude_Rec)+"\""
            aid = Exclude_Rec.dump()
            aid = *for_each(x,"Rail_Id = " + quote(x),aid)
            filter = strtran(alltrim(aid), crlf()," .or. ")
            This is what I think i need to do, to get it working with a textbox generating the string. e.g. se00001,se00002,se00003

            I cannot seem to get this to work.

            Can anyone offer me some help with this?

            Denis.

              Re: Excude many records from a report

              Denis,

              I'm partial to dropdown lists myself, since I'm not that good a speller.

              Here's a simple component to show and hide events in an event manager...it's just two multiselect dropdown boxes and two advanced buttons.

              Here, the "shown events" dropdown box is named "vShowList". The multiselect dropdown control creates an array, and always seems to create at least the first element. The array is named the same as the list, in this case, vShowList[]. Here's the script I use for the hide button.:

              Code:

              '**** Hide Button script ****
              '==== If nothing was selected, do nothing
              if alltrim(vShowList[1])=""
               end
              end if
              '==== build a filter based on the events selected
              Dim vFilter as C
              Dim tbl as P
              Dim Indx as P
              vFilter = vShowList.dump()
              vFilter = *for_each(x,"Ev_Id = " + quote(x),vFilter)
              vFilter  = strtran(alltrim(vFilter), crlf()," .or. ")
              '==== inactivate the events
              tbl=table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\events")
              Indx=tbl.order("Ev_Id",vFilter)
              tbl.fetch_first()
              while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
               tbl.change_begin()
               tbl.Ev_Active = .f.
               tbl.change_end(.t.)
               tbl.fetch_next()
              end while
              tbl.close()
              currentForm.RedirectTarget = "Ev_ShowHide.a5w"

                Pat,

                Again, thank you for your reply.

                With the best will in the world, cannot convert this method to work with my app. I was hoping i could have selected the records i did not want to appear in the report, then hit SUBMIT and report displayed excluding selections made.

                I think i may have to give up on this feature.

                Thanks,

                Denis
