Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Free Form

    In the free form mode of a grid, can you insert xbasic to have IF conditions? If so, do you use the normal coding <%a5......%>?

    #2
    If you are talking about a Freeform Layout, they cannot contain Xbasic code.

      If you want to use xbasic logic like "if" commands, you can define a custom control that uses the logic to create alternative html. The custom control can then be placed in a freeform layout.

        Jerry, you hit the nail on the head. I want to display/not display info based upon some logical fields. Are there any examples anywhere?

        Thanks

          Display Conditionally

          I am looking for the same illustration. Want to be able to have certain fields display based on a check mark in a logical box. Still searching forum and docs.

            Gary, to get my results, I created a calculated field with the IF statement that I needed and then added this field to my field list to be part of the grid. It was also based upon a logical field.

              Calculated Field For Conditional Field Display

              Thanks. I will give that a try.

                Gary,

                In my app, I read the column labels into an array, and if the label is blank, I hide the column. You can probably adapt this to your needs.

                This code is from the a5w page, and the loop does the hiding.

                Code:

                with tmpl_Pe_List
                 componentName = "Pe_List"
                '==== Add a filter and hide blank columns ====
                 .DBF.filter = "Li_Id=" + s_quote(session.Li_Id)
                 for x=1 to 12
                 field_info[x+3].column.heading=session.PL[x]
                 if alltrim(session.PL[x])=""
                  field_info[x+3].column.hide=.t.
                 end if
                 next
                '==== end of filter and hide ====
                end with
                Pat

                  Phil...
                  I must be really dense on this. I have tried all kinds of if statements and have yet to get the field(s) to hide that I want hidden until another field has a check in the box. Can you give me an example of yours using my fieldnames

                  If fieldname1 is .F. (empty) I don't want fieldname2 to be visable. Once a a check mark is made in an existing (already saved previously) record, I want fieldname 2 to appear in that record on the A5w page so that a value (textbox) can be completed.

                    The code is at home but it was a statement like this. Missing is a logical field. This is a calculated field that is defined within the QUERY options of the grid. Then I refresh the query, go to field, add cmatemissing to the grid, format as necessary. If the Logical field MISSING is checked, then Display "Classmate Missing" otherwise display nothing on the grid.

                    CMatemissing = If(missing,"Classmate Missing","")
