Record Count in Grid

I have a grid application where the customer would like displayed in the total records row of the grid "Records 10-20 of 528" instead of "Records: 528"

The total records row uses a variable {Total_Records} which doesnt seem to be accessible in any way from the a5w page, and is only replaced in the tmpl.total_records_row variable. The page numbers from the record navigator function in the same way, but I was able to find a work around for that using an Extract_String on the Request.Query_String variable. I do not know the query which is being run by the grid search component at any given time, so I cannot run a total records search.

Here is my current code:

My current code does not work on the last page of grid search results, nor when no records are returned by the search. Does anyone know a way to get the Total Records of a search or any workaround to make this work. Thanks.

Solved my problem, Javascript is a wonderful tool, and Lennys post about passing variables between Javascript and Xbasic was essential.

If anyone is interested, here is how I did it:
