Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V10 beta Alphabet Button

Does the Alphabet Button creator in V10 allow you to make generic multistate buttons easily or just hard coded A,B,C,etc buttons?

    Re: V10 beta Alphabet Button

    Hi Richard,

As far as I know, it will be just the Alphabet and Numbers 1 to 0.

What did you have in mind?

      Keith,

From an earlier post of yours. Has something changed?

Re Numbers on new Super Control Multistate Button:

      Question to Selwyn:
      Quote:
Can Numbers be used as well as letters? I have a customer list that has customers like, 1st Computer Club and 21st Century Fireworks.
      Reply from Selwyn
      Quote:
sorry - no. for simplicity, we limit it to alphabet buttons. you will have to continue to hand code special requirements
So there you have it, direct from the top.

Richard, There is a V10 forum setup now for both desktop and server.

Keep in mind that, one way or another, most every object has properties that can be manipulated.

I haven't had the opportunity to look at possible Xbasic-driven manipulations of this one, but I'll bet such changes will be in decent demand, as will solutions.

As Selwyn would say, "Alpha Software wants to leave something for the developer to do."

          Keith
I have a couple of questions and issues on multistate buttons and was just wondering if V10 would solve them. Am putting together a database to upload to demonstrate the questions. Will take a bit.

Jeff, sorry I didn't know of V10 forum. Came back and could not find my post in V9 forum. Clicked on Keith's replies and found where my post went.

            Richard,

No problem. Just wanted to let you know for future reference that the have finally setup forums for V10 questions and have been moving V10 posts there.

From the latest I have read on the forum they have not released any of the V10 desktop stuff for beta testing so all we have to go by is the video's produced showing us some of the new features. Please still post your issues with multi-state buttons and see if someone can help.

Re Numbers on new Super Control Multistate Button:
              Yes, is the simple answer.

After many emails and all my great powers of persuasion, Selwyn has implemented the choice of Numerics and Alphabet.

At this time I have not seen how the new choice has been implemented.

                Keith,

Great job. I agree with you that numbers are important for the search.

                Thanks.
