Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V9 and V10 Same Machine

    Hello,

This may be out there on the board somewhere but I've been unable to locate it. I actually have V8 and V9 installed and would like to install V10 Beta. The installation notes say to find your current V9 installation folder and install the contents of the 2 zip files into your current V9 installation folder.

I would like to maintain my current V9 (licensed) installation separate from the V10 Beta installtion. Can I re-run the V9 installer and point it to a different destination directory then install V10 files into that folder?

    Thanks for your reply.

    Best Regards,

    John

Sure. That's what I did to keep a clean copy of V9 separate from the V10 stuff. Just make sure you're careful where you publish to if your testing web apps. I set up a new profile for the V10 beta.

That's one good thing about Alpha. You can run A4v1 through A4v8 (DOS versions) and A5v1 through A5v10 all on the same computer.

Many developers have multiple versions running because of customers who are still using older versions. I just got my last A5v1 customer converted a year ago.

        Hi Jim and Cal,

Thanks for your replies. I knew you could have multiple versions. It's just the way that you have to install v10 beta I think it is different than when v9 was in beta. If I remember correctly I just installed v9 beta and that was it. The installation of v10 beta is different in that it requires you install v9 then extract v10 beta files into the installation folder.

Thanks for your replies. V10 looks like it is going to be some product.

        Best regards,

        John Marra

          John,

          Don't need to reinstall.

          Just copy the C:\Program Files\a5v9
to say C:\Program Files\a5v10 and then unzip the files from the download and create a shortcut to alpha5.exe in the v10 folder and your good to go.

In the last post, if you're using Vista 64 bit, the files are kept in C:\Program Files (X86). Just a clarification.

Is that all you need to do?
Copy all the items in a5v9 to a folder you create named a5v10 in the program files filder; then install the extractions for v10 & the .v10 file.
What about the Application Server? Can that be left alone as a5v9ApplicationServer? Or should I create a folder called a5v10AppServer & do the same for it too?
