Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Issues

Can anyone else verify formatting issues with reports designed in Version 9 running on Version 10? I've had numerous reports where the formatting and spacing of reports that worked in V9 are now requiring a complete redesign in V10.

      Re: Report Issues

Have tested a number of reports in our main application many of which are very complex with lots of calculated fields and conditional boxes and can report no variation with v9

        Jeffrey

The only issue I have come across was with a report saved as an RTF which created some alignment issues. Apart from that all others seem okay so far....

Attached is an example of the formatting issues I am seeing. This has happened on a number of my V9 reports.

            Re: Report Issues

            See my earlier posting.

"I have loaded the latest V10 October 29th build and it now messes up some of my reports (OK previous builds). I think the 'Allow growth when printing' behaves differently. If I turn it off for each field then it is OK. If I leave it on it grows the field regardless of whether it needs to grow. A real pain."

              Re: Report Issues

I'm having the same problem in reports. There is significant white space between records. I just noticed the problem so I installed the latest version tonight but that did not fix this issue.

                Re: Report Issues

After upgrading to version 10 there is extra white space on the report. If I uncheck Word-Wrap on the Format tab is looks okay if I keep it checked there is lots of extra white space. I would sure like to be able to use the Word-Wrap feature.

Checking or unchecking "Allow Growth when Printing" and "Allow Shrinking" made no difference. The problem is trigger by checking and unchecking Word-Wrap only. See examples.

This problem is visible when previewing the report in the Alpha report designer.

This is with Word Wrap on the Description field.

                    Unable to reproduce problem.

                    Can you post sample app?

                      Re: Report Issues

Unfortunately my app is far to large to include here. I reverted back to V9 for that application due to the reporting issue. I haven't been able to verify that it is the wordwrap function however the report/form prints and displays fine in V9 while V10 is inserting blamk lines. Hopefully I can look at it closer after I've finished the current app I am working on.

                        Re: Report Issues

I've experienced the same issue. I printed two letters in v10 and they both printed across 2 pages. Both of these letters print on 1 page in v9 and prior.

I haven't had the time to deal with it, so I just went back to v9.

                          Re: Report Issues

Here is an example. The report named "Print Problem" is a stripped down report with the issue. Just by checking and unchecking Word Wrap on the Company field, causes the problem.

See an example in the attached pdf files in a post my post above.

I am having issues with the word wrap. Its creating a big gap between my descriptions when I check it. Report runs fine when I uncheck it. Please help. This does not happen in V9.

                            Thanks

This issue has never been resolved as far as I know. I sent in a bug report with an example two months ago. Each release I hope to see a fix but nothing yet...
