Hello Alpha Message Board Members,
My name is Gary
With around 17 years invested with VBA and MSAccess, I've just hit breaking point with the war on developers that MS appear to have been waging for the past 10 years. Consequently, I am actively looking for a new db platform to
distribute our runtime app.
After a few weeks of looking at the alternatives, Alpha5 V.10 appears to be the strongest contender, for several reasons:
* Windows APIs appear to be supported
* WMI Calls appear to be supported
* Scripting doesn't look a million miles different to VB (with some help)
However, several questions remain regarding:
* V10 Runtime model
* Attaching linked tables
* App/db security
* VB to XBasic code conversion
Since these are different questions, I'll run the first one here but post the
others separately. I don't want to breach any msg board protocols in doing so, but I'm mindful that multiple q's can lead to thread bloat. I apologize in
advance if this was the wrong way of doing it.
Runtime
=======
From what I gather, the model for V10 is different to V9 and closer to the
MSAccess model of unlimited distribution. Questions are:
* Are additional requirements made of the end user for the R/T? License keys
for example?
* Does the runtime license include an install builder?
* If the App is P/W protected, does the user have to enter a P/W or can this be automated through command line options, auto exec?
Many Thanks in advance for any replies.
Gary
