Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

These functions are nowhere to be found in any help file. Do you know where they are explained?

I can get netmailer to work just fine from the tools menu with Alpha5 developer. Can set up a button on a form but dosen't work
like the one from the tools menu, infact it does not work at all. Why is the netmailer not included in the app when install is created. I recieved Netmail Pro with upgrade to Alpha5 V10. In the video it states that you can use in developing your appication for distribution. However when the application is open with Alpha5 runtime is states that the netmailer function is not found.

          Hi Jim,

I think you have to install the Netmailer in the Runtime also if you are creating a package for distribution.

              Re: Netmailer

I installed Netmailer in the run time directory, you can browse and find the addins installed folder and netmailer is listed.
However when you right click on a tablet and then click on addin and select netmailer -create a new job -says that netmailer is not installed.

Where are the xbasic functions for netmailer listed. Not in the help file or on the message board.

                Hi Jim,

I have not used Netmailer in Runtime. I would think that you would create the button in the full version which would then be available in the runtime version.

Help is available from within Netmailer itself. Right click on a table and from the Menu select Addins -> Netmailer->Create New Job. In the bottom right hand corner next to the Cancel button you will see the Help button. Click on that for all the instructions for Netmailer.

What Xbasic functions are you looking for other than those I told you about?

                  Re: Netmailer

Yes you are correct about the help file -which is out of date.
I have no problem createing a job by right clicking on a table and running netmailer. The problem is when you add a button on a form to run netmailer you do not get the same options as you do running it on a table-at least I don't. It never gives an option to set the filter or sort.
                  xbasic code:
                  a5_netmailer_start()

                    Hi Jim,

See screen shot of dialog after completing Create New Netmailer Job.

The first Tables, lets you set the Filter and Order expressions. Also note the Update option, this is very useful.

                      Re: Netmailer

yes I can use the update options window but I was expecting a screen that looks like the attached image.-to set options just before sending. This window is available when you run a job from right click on a table and use the netmailer functions. It is not available if netmailer is run from a button on a form.
As I see it you have no way to test your options before you send from a form.

                        Hi Jim,

There are several functions for Netmailer, I suggest you check them all out.

                        Have you used a5_netmailer_prompt()?

                          Keith
Have tried all of the functions. The one that I can get to work is a5_netmailer_start(). The other all seem to have a problem or its my xbasic code.

I still can not figure out how to ship with an application.
I installed netmailer in the runtime directory as you suggested-but it did not work-tells me it is not installed.
                          Thanks for your help

if you want to allow users of an app using runtime, i believe you need to buy the netmailer runtime edition for distribution.

i contacted alpha about this a couple of months ago and this is the response i got back.

I wonder if this means that if one buys one of the deal being offered right now [NetMailer Pro for Version 10 (Normally $495) free with any of the offered bundles], that it can't be used with the runtime, even if one is buying a bundle that includes the runtime. I can't imagine (well, maybe I can!) that something that costs $495 can't be used with the runtime. Maybe Richard can clarify.
