Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Steve, if you do not have a web app, and are using ONLY dbf tables, does it still work.

      Martin,
Not to speak for Steve, but as this worked easily with SimpleCharts and RMCharts with an image then if an image of the chart can be produced from the data, then it can be used easily on the form as Steve has indicated and even in a report (with a bunch more work for multiple records).

In fact I have used FusionCharts in a form many months ago on a desktop when experimenting around so I would say yes!

Re: FusionCharts on Reports and Desktop Forms

The FusionCharts can be produced with any data connected to A5. The example I show in the video is just a small .dbf, but it works just as well with Active Link tables to other back ends.

Good answer!!! Where do I go to order a trial, if available? get pricing, etc. Presume it is an add-in, like a5_doc, that I could run from a button on a form.

Info on the genie is at http://workings.com/a5fusionchart.htm.

It'll be a few days before I release a version that has the image generator for reports and desktop forms. But anyone who has the genie will get a free upgrade, and everything you've done will be compatible.

Re: FusionCharts on Reports and Desktop Forms

The image export for forms and reports isn't included in the FusionCharts Free version. So, I'll be supporting FusionCharts version 3 and a few (more later) of the Widgets.

I just got the FusionCharts version 3 myself a couple days ago, and while I'm really pleased with the free stuff the version 3 licensed charts are somehow much better and more pleasing. I'm no graphics expert so I don't know the reason(s) why but they're very nice.

                      Steve,

Have you considered developing an Alpha5 chart genie for Google Charts API similar to your Fusion Charts genie? I plan to offer an application on a hosted, subscription basis, and the Fusion Charts license for commercial apps is a bit pricey. I'm sure a number of Alpha5 developers would love to use the free Google Charts API.

Re: FusionCharts on Reports and Desktop Forms

Well, I'll take a look at it but I doubt much of what I've done can be leveraged for the Google API. I'd be very surprised. So, nothing soon, I can assure you, but good idea.

You might check with sales at FusionCharts about a price that fits your budget -- perhaps they'll agree to a lesser-priced package for you and make it more affordable. They've always been nice people to work with.
