Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    tab Object Problems

I use a tab object on a menu form and have noticed some odd behaviour.

If I open my database, which has a splash screen which afetr 5 seconds opens my menu form, I get no tabs at the top of the control. If i move the mouse over where the tabs should be I get noting either.

However, if I close the form and re-open it manualy it works, 9 times out of 10.

IS this a bug or am I doing soething wrong??

    Cheers

      Hi Keith,

No I don't get the same results when using the alphasports app, however, having just looked at the design of the forms in that app i've found they don't use the tab control.

Perhaps i'll have to change to doing it the way of the examples, but seems a bit of a compromise to me, although it does give a better visual result :)

      cheers for the reply

I have today reported a bug concerning "disappearing" tabs and am in the process of submitting an example for testing by Alpha.

How does one submit a bug report? Attached is a database I am working on which demonstrates some odd behavior on tabbed forms.

Open the form MFA in design mode and go to any of the tabs and you will see properly formatted and spaced yes-no options. However, open the same form in form view and the "no" options disappear.

Of note, I also can't select "Design" mode when in form view, even when I make it a normal window and set it to modal or modeless. Nevermind - I turned on a restriction in the form properties which prohibited editing layouts.

I went back and widened each field on the tabs and that solved the problem. The issue remains that the design view and the form view of the same form don't coincide.

Hi all, hope everyone had a good christmas.

Sorry to revive this, but has this problem been resolved ??

I checked the release notes, but didn't see anything obvious.

                  Thanks

                    karl,
has this problem been resolved ??
I reread this thread and no where does it seem that anyone submitted a bug report.....I would think that in order for something to get resolved, that it would first have to be brought to the attention of the powers that be! :) (Main Menu-->Help-->Send a Bug Report)

According to the release notes :

                      Build 2641-3512 Dec 17-2009

                      Bugs

Forms - Tab Control - XP - On machines running Windows XP, under certain circumstances, the tabs on a tab control would not repaint correctly.

Does this mean it's been fixed or just that it's been identified ??

                      cheers

                        karl,
Anything under Bugs would be what was fixed (released as part of the noted build). But it is entirely possible that it became "broken" again at a later time.....if you can reproduce this with the latest build resubmit it as a bug after having others verify that it is again an issue (I currently do not have v10 so I cannot).

Apologies for my slow response - as far as I can see this was satisfactorily resolved by the patch and it certainly fixed the problem I was experiencing.
