Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Disappearing Report

I'm having an issue with a report that was created in an earlier version of A5 and last edited and successfully used in version 9. I copied the database structure to use as a test and learning platform for version 10 (which I patched to build 2659_3515 released on 12/26). My issue is that after modifying and saving a report in the design mode, I'm still prompted to save the report. Upon agreeing to save the report again in an attempt to exit the design mode, it does not exit the design mode and I'm instead faced with an endless cycle of being prompted to save the report and it not letting me exit the design mode. After going through the cycle numerous times and instead choosing "No" or "Cancel", I'm allowed to exit the design mode, however, upon trying to use the report I receive an error stating that the report does not exist. The problem is repeatable as I've started over with a new copy of the database structure four times. I've used every version of A5 and this is the first time I've encountered this type of problem. Does anyone have a resolution to this issue or is it a known bug?

I just experienced the same problem.
Also the filter I had been using in all version through V9 does not work in V10.

George, I haven't seen this problem before. If you want assistance give us the details about:

      a) the steps you followed that led to the "problem"; and

      b) the filter expression that's failing, together with a description of when and how it's being applied

        Re: Disappearing Report

Attached is a copy of the filter, calculated field, and V10 error message. I have been using this filter for years under previous versions. I did discover that if I moved the calculated field to the begining of the statement, it will run. It appears from the error meesage that V10 inserts parentheses as part of my statement.

The report dissapears when I attempt to save the report. After this error occurs, I receive the attached report run error. I am unable to run the report or access design fo the report. Could the save error occur because of the special characters I used in the set and report names? I discovered this was an issue when inserting a reoprt on a web page or UI Interface.

        Thanks

Sorry, no attachments arrived with your post.

"Special Characters" in the set and report names? Yes, I suppose some non-alpha characters might cause this problem.

I used the manage attachments. Should I use another method - or - more likely, what am I doing wrong?

Manage Attachments works well. There are size limits, but these are spelled out. Perhaps you forgot to Upload the attachments? It's basically a three step process:

              a) browse for the attachment (should be a disk file on your machine)
              b) upload the attachment, then close the manage attachments window
              c) submit the reply message (to which the attachment is attached.)

                Re: Disappearing Report

Using V9, I moved the calculated field to the beginning of my filter expression, saved it, and ran under V10 without an error.

The Save errors are located on page 3 and 4 of the attached

                Thanks

                  Re: Disappearing Report

The cannot find file error seems to include a forward slash. Do you have a name of some sort with a forward slash in it.

The report name does have a "/". report name :inv/cc(insp due by CC)
I would assume that is the problem when using V10.

                      Re: Disappearing Report

There's a section of the help that covers recommendations for table and field names. It doesn't hurt to follow those for anything you name.

Concerning the invalid report filter expression, it seems you're using a calc display field in your report filter expression. I don't think you can do this in vers 9 or 10.

                          Re: Disappearing Report

I have been running the reports in V9 until very recently without a problem.
The naming conventions are a matter of me becoing a little wiser over the years. Much of this application was developed many years ago. I appears that I will need to revise many of my names.

                          Thanks

The one question that still remains unanswered is why would the report dissapear if unable to save in V10? I just did some testing and it occurs every time.
