Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    One page form isn't....

Sorry i accidentally posted this in the Application server forum before.
I have a one page form that suddenly is printing 3 blank pages after it prints the record.
Stan Matthews suggested it's probably something close to the edge of the page which makes perfect sense.
HOWEVER just for drill I created a blank form linked to the same table and it also prints four pages.

Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks and I appreciate all input!

What is the designed size of the form? Can it fit within the printable area of the paper size you are using?
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan

Yes it does (or should)fit on the page. I create a new BLANK form; inserted NOTHING, form size is 8x10 (under form properties)saved it, print previewed it; it's 2 blank pages. Default printer (under printer setup)is a laserjet 3050 with letter size paper portrait. I inserted one bitmap and print preview, same thing.

I create a new DEFAULT form with all of the fields on it, and it print previews perfectly, on ONE page. Making absolutely no sense to me.

      Mean anything to you?

If I had hair, I'd pull it out :o)

      Thanks

        Re: One page form isn't....

8x10 will not fit on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper if the print margins are more than .25 on the sides and .5 and top and bottom. The default seems to be .5 all around.

If I create a new default form for the invoice set in AlphaSports the genie gives me a form 6.791667 wide by 6.09375 tall, not 8 x 10.

I'll offer some other oft quoted advice. Forms are for viewing, reports are for printing. You can create a new empty report and import your form if you must print it.

Rusty, if its any consolation you should know that this trips a lot of people up. Unlike the old dot matrix, line by line printers, inkjets and lasers cannot print edge to edige. The size of the unprintable zones along all 4 edges of the sheet will vary a bit from printer to printer. The fact that these unprintable zones exist is missed by most because we usually want larger margins anyway. -- tom

              Thanks

                Re: One page form isn't....

                Peter,

First of all, you shouldn't be printing forms. Forms are for viewing, reports are for printing. You can start a new report based on the same table/set upon which your form is based, choose blank report, and use the Report menu, Import, and choose your saved form from the list.

At this point you have much more control over how the printout looks such as margins, paper sizes, what to do with overflow data etc.

Secondly, you don't get to change the default size for a new form. Alpha guesses the size based on the number of fields to be displayed on screen. Create a new table with two fields, save it, and create a form based on it. The "default" will be tiny.

Given Alpha's starting guess you can resize the form to what ever you want. Assuming that you still insist on printing the form I would suggest you resize it no bigger than 7.5 by 9.5 if you want to print to a letter size (US) piece of paper. This will fit in the default .5 inch margins.
                There can be only one.
