Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

However, we did have a nice little earthquake just now (4.2). Being so unpredictable, they trump any discomfort from nasty cold weather.

All relative really--having grown up with earthquakes being commonplace in a place that could get decidedly cold (Alaska), I would much rather endure the quakes than the cold!! Quakes never lasted as long! (well, except for the '64 earthquake!). But if not used to them, I can for sure see your point! :)

Last Alaska earthquake I remember I was a Geology student at Humboldt State. A bunch of us jumped in a van and drove to Crescent City to see if it would be destroyed again by tsunami.

So let's hope that you are not indeed seeing the first of the supposed ice age triggered by global warming.

Scientists aren't good at marketing and apparently weren't smart enough to hire a marketing group to help them. They started out calling it "Global Warming" and that caught phrase on. However, nobody listened to the rest of the story when, since the very beginning, they tried to say that some places could actually get colder (wetter, drier, stormier, etc.) while the average world temp got higher. Note that the linked site doesn't call it Global Warming - it's now "Climate Change".

                  Re: Global Warming?

I was just wondering...when, exactly, is the climate not changing?

What are we try to do...make the climate go to steady-state in a near infinite complex of variables, many with power beyond our ability to measure or predict?
The last real global warming era produced a great deal of benefits for mankind and other species as well.
Insisting that the climate can be predicted 10-20-60+ years out is beyond preposterous, or the pinnacle of inflated arrogance.
The midwest "dust-bowl" drought of the 1930's has yet to recur and destroyed millions of acres of crop land for years after.

In summer '80 we had 13 consecutive days above 110f. No such thing has happened since.

This winter will maybe beat the long deep freeze of 1982-3 where thousands of water pipes blew out inside exterior walls of new & old homes alike. The temp stayed below 20f for 8 days with lows near 8f
80 broke all records for heat/drought here.
82-83 broke all records for cold here.
                  Those records still stand.

We have great minds which however can be drawfed by egos and insatiable desire for power over others since "we know best" what is good for others.
"Crisis" used to mean what the dictionary says. But, now means "don't dare scrutinize", "we must give up libery" and "raise taxation levels".
Scientists have become hucksters for politicions for securing grant money.

                    Re: Global Warming?

After I posted that I realized it was a mistake. I was simply stating a fact about the marketing of "Global Warming". I haven't been convinced one way or the other about how big of an issue it will be or how much has been caused by man. I believe man has had an affect but I don't know how much. I try to remain open minded. (I also watch both Fox and MSNBC - I wonder how many others can say that.)

Enough politics - this isn't the place and I shouldn't have let myself get sucked into it.

Climate did not change much if any from 1700 to 1900 when you look at the history as recorded by tree rings and layers of ice. You are confusing climate with weather. Per the Wikipedia: "Climate encompasses the statistics of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, rainfall, atmospheric particle count and numerous other meteorological elements in a given region over long periods of time. Climate can be contrasted to weather, which is the present condition of these same elements over periods up to two weeks."

While it may be absurd to predict weather 20 or 60 years from now, it is fully reasonably to predict average climates based on 50-year trends of data. Surely, specific peaks and valleys cannot be predicted. But long-term averages can be.

As Cal pointed out, maybe the scientists are not the best when it comes to marketing and politics. But that's not their goal and I don't think it should be.

True, I was referring to the Middle Ages. b4 1700 as the warming period. Just b4 computers were invented.
