Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Label Question

How do you update the Labels that are in the Label Wizard to add additional/different vendor labels?

Is there an import of templates from say Avery that will add the various types and styles of labels that are available?

    Thanks for any help,

    Ben

    Re: Label Question

Don't believe you can. You can use any of the available templates as the basis for creating and saving your own.

Further: I now think it is possible if somewhat tedious.

Find your a_shared.dbf, probably in the Alpha Five program directory.
Copy the three a_shared files to your database directory.
    Add a_shared.dbf to your database.
Open a_shared.dbf and add all the sizes you want/can determine the necessary field values.
    Backup your original a_shared files.
Drop the a_shared.dbf from your database.
Copy the same three files back to the program directory.

If you need help defining a label let me know. I've experimented with a couple now and have an idea about what is required.

Thanks Stan. I will give that a try. Also, here is something that I have found to be really strange. I went in and defined a custom label to match the Avery 5390 Name Badges Insert label (actually I cheated a little, I went into Word 2007 to the Label section which contains a ton (well actually a bunch) of predefined labels by various Makers and when you choose the label you really want to use and then click the Detail button, it gives you all the info to use within Alpha's custom design screen), so I put in the design info, added the data to the label and did a preview and viola' it looked great, now the bad news, when I go in and select my data by a filtered query and I see all the records in a Default View, all the records are there, however, when I do the print, it only prints 1 label. Can't figure this one out.

              Ben,

What margin and gutter sizes actually worked?

                Stan,

Here is the info I pulled up in Word for the Label 5390 and the spec's I used. Once I found this info, I just went into Alpha Label Custom and entered the info from what I found in Word. Worked like a charm.

Sorry, I haven't tried that yet, have been stuck in meeting all afternoon. I'll give it a try hopefully tomorrow and let you know.

                    Thanks,
