Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Preview errors

Whenever I try to preview a report I get the same two error messages. What do I need to do to get rid of the messages? The files are attached. I am new at this and quite confused.

    Thanks,

    Steve M

    Hi Steve,

Welcome to the world of Alpha.

    Is this your first report?

Do you get the same error messages when you run a report from AlphaSports?

          Sounds like a faulty installation.

              Re: Print Preview errors

The good news is that the issue has come up before this.

The bad news is that it was posted on the message board, some suggestions given, and then nothing.

                  Returning user...same problem

I have not been an active user since A5V4. I did buy Ver 6 and got Ver 7 thrown in. I never much used them because by that time I had pretty much switched to Microsoft Access and was fairly happy with it after getting through the learning curve.

With all the good things I've been hearing about Ver 10, I decided to give it a try so I just purchased it and installed it. Fortunately, I have not activated the program and am still eligible for the 30-day money back guarantee.

I am having the very same problem right out of the box...or right out of the download I guess. This is the error message I get:

                  Script:a5_get_stored_menus2 line:18
                  Error loading C:\ProgramData\AlphaSoftware\Alpha Five Version
10\Installations\CProgramFilesa5V10\a_menus_system.dbf: The system cannot find the file specified.
                  C:\ProgramData\Alpha Software\Alpha Five Version
                  10\Installations\CProgramFilesa5V10\a_menus_system.dbf

I also get another error message when the report closes. All the previews work after the error message except the letter I created. It does not even open.

I first checked to see if I had the latest patch. When that checked out, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem.

I know all software has bugs but this is the first time I have experienced a serious bug within 5 minutes of installing a program.

I did have the problem but after uninstalling and reinstalling managed to get it to work and am quite happy with it. I' m using XP and found that I had to remove all references to Alpha including any in the Documents and Settings folder

                      Re: Print Preview errors

Hi everybody, I had the same problem with the report preview and it doesn't appear the print toolbar. When you start Alpha Five the first time (it doesn't mind the version), in the next path, it generates files to start Alpha Five.
                      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\Alpha Software\Alpha Five Version 9\Installations
within this directory, it generates the folder: "CArchivosdeprogramaa5v9" or if you use Alpha Five RunEngine, it generates the folder:
                      "CArchivosdeprogramaa5v9RunEngine"
After the uninstall and reinstall Alpha Five, you should delete this folders (CArchivosdeprogramaa5v9 and/or CArchivosdeprogramaa5v9RunEngine)
and it start again. In the next time, it should be appeared the print toolbar.

                      Regards.

                      Cesar
