Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

If date format changes, can pop up calendar be used

Not sure if this is an issue or a constraint of the program. Should I be changing something other than display format for a date field to allow the program to use the popup calendar.

If I change the display format of a date field on the input screen, the input method seems to change.

By default, a date format is DD/MM/YY eg: 24/01/1010
On the input screen where a user changes or inputs dates, they want to use the format displalying the month name. 24-Jan-10

When I change the format to DD-MMM-YY eg: 24-Jan-2010 input constraints occur.

-User is not able input manually using letters. "24 Jan 2010"
-User is not able to use the popup calendar and choose a date, it remains blank.
-When I change this in a browse, the calendar does work, it first inputs using numbers then when moving off the record turns to letters.
-If user enters just the numbers 240110, it works, result shows 24-jan-2010
-Sometimes I get a strange behaviour where it is missing the last character, 24-Jan-201 When I pull up the calendar to choose another date, the years all show only 3 characters... 199, 200, 201, this only happened a few times, could have been temporary glitch.

So, just wondering if there is a constriant for users only to use numbers and not the calendar.

Re: If date format changes, can pop up calendar be used

I created a new table with a date field. Everything seems to work fine but if focus is given to the date field, it shows the default setting. Once exit is made, the date goes back to the style of the field's format.

Then, I clicked the calendar and chose a different date which yields: "Constant Operator is not recognized". The only way out is to revert back to the previous date either by canceling the change or selecting the previous date with the calendar.

    Look s like another bug.

Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

Re: If date format changes, can pop up calendar be used

It seems that the date field gives the error message when the calendar is used only when the control type of the date field is a type in field. If you change the control type in properties for the date field to calendar, and set up your format for DD_mmm_yy (03-Jan-10) when you save the form and then use the calendar, it does not throw the error message of constant operator is not recognized.

      Seems to work that way

However in version 8 and version 9 it would work either way as a type in field or calendar.

So I would agree this is a bug.

        That's it, you got it.
The work-around is succesesful and achieves my goal.

Now users can apply dates with the calendar when I change those parameters.

        This forum is great

        Thank you ...... :)
