Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    add table to existing set

    How do you add a table to an existing set?
    Tried suggestion in the help file-could not add it.
    Tried message board with key words of (add table to set)
    get message of (to) is under the minimum word length.

    I find that the search function on the message board is hard to use.

    Right click on the set in the tables/Sets tab of the Control Panel. Select Edit Set. Click on there parent table then click on the Add Link button on the right.

      I know how to do what you said.
      When in the design mode for a form built from a table-you see the fields listed in the DragDrop List. Only the fields appear for that table. I want to use a field in another table on the form. I have done this before, but have forgotten how.

        Are you saying this didn't work?

        Add a Table to the Set

        Select a table in the Set Editor and click the Add Link button to add a table to the set. The Define Link dialog box appears in which you specify the link properties.

        Use quotes to search for a phrase, i.e.

        "add table to set"
        There can be only one.

          Yes I have done that and the table is in the set.
          However when I go to the design mode for a form based on a table (not the set)the added table never shows in the DragDrop list.

            Working as designed. The DragDrop list is populated from the table (or set of tables) that is supporting the form being designed. If the form is based on a single table as you say, other tables will not be present in the DD list.

                I'm only seeing Tom Cone on this thread, no other Tom, and I'm pretty sure if you look at Tom Cone's location it reads Florida. While I was born and lived and spent time in Florida, and have lived and spent much time in Texas, and gauge both states as completely unsustainable (HOT!!) living environments for this cat... I'm certain they are not the same location....

                  Jim --

                  In order to see all tables in the set when you are editing the form, the form must be based on the set, not on the table. To fix the problem, I suggest you do the following:

                  - Go to the forms tab in the control panel;
                  - Right click on the form you are working on;
                  - Left click on "Copy to", and copy the form to the set with the added table;
                  - Name the new form with the same name as the old one;
                  - Delete the old form.

                  You should now be able to see in the form editor all tables comprising the set on which the form is based.
