Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Re: How to do outliner?

      Peter,

Jeff at Bennet-Tec got back to me. This code was all that was necessary to allow the grid and tree items to be edited:

      HTML Code:
      dim global TList1 As P
      TList1 = Activex1.ActiveX.this

      TList1.Grid.Cols = 5

      TList1.EditingMode = 2
      TList1.EditingMode = 3
Below is very much a work in progress, but it is progress. The TList8 control allows in-line editing. Here I have double clicked on a field to edit it but I could set an Editing mode property to edit on single click. Result: Can remove all pencil icons

I plan to add a button to allow a new record on any node of the tree. Result: Can remove all "Add lines" at the bottom of every indented group.

I can add or remove the tree lines and change color also.

I congratulate you and Mario for your always amazing creativity.

But I think that I will continue to explore TList8's capabilities with the end objective of replicating the ease of use that you are familiar with.

I envision a form with a toggle button between [Display/change]
If display: A line could be edited only if it is doubleclicked

If change: A line could be added simply by pressing the [Enter] key. This is the way Microsoft Word and Ecco both work and is necessary to capture thoughts rapidly without distracting key and mouse clicks. And a clean, simple,
      compact appearance to boot!

Hopefully the result will be a simple outliner that can keep up with your thinking process and yet integrate with your Alpha Five application data.

Screen 1: Shows tree items being edited
Screens 2, 3: Shows grid items being edited
Screen 4: Shows automatic hierarchical outline numbering

        Bob,

Not sure why you would congrat me, but congratulate yourself! You are the person with a better understanding of a clean and intuitive UI than most people on this board have.

          Re: How to do outliner?

Just want to report some further research.

Earlier I provided a link to:
          http://www.outlinersoftware.com/topi...t-of-outliners

As it turns out, this site also has a forum to which I posted the following:

          Code:
What is best ActiveX or .net control for adding Outlining to
your Microsoft Access, Visual Studio, Alpha Five, etc . application

Has anyone on this forum ever:

          1. Integrated one of these outliners with their own application database?
          2. Used an ActiveX or .net control to add outlining capability to their
          own application.

If you have successfully done either, could you please post
the outliner or the control that you used.

          My issue is this:
An outliner like ECCO features great outlining, but weak person
contact information. If you would like to have similar outlining
capability but link to your Access database of persons,
employees, vendors, etc. what tool is best.

          Thanks,

I received this very interesting reply

This is more of a user forum than a developer one, so you may
get a better response from something like DonationCoder…

I use exOntrol components. These are very nice. Samples are provided
to integrate with Access (though I have not used them with
          Access myself)

          http://www.exontrol.com/sg.jsp?content=exontrol

Of course, if you’re looking for a modern Ecco Pro with better
database features, you may find that InfoQube does it all for you.
          No development required !

Please check this site for some very impressive screenprints of what Pierre has done with this control:

          http://sites.google.com/site/infoqube/Features.

Also I have attached some screenprints. This is a real cotton-pickin outliner!
This can allow you to add project management features to your Alpha
          Five application.

This is very, very close to what I am trying to do. This may be the needle
the haystack I've been looking for. If Pierre suggests that it can work
with Microsoft Accesss, I'd like to hope that it is also compatible with
Alpha Five. Has anyone here everyworked with exontrols?

Gee, if we could only get exontrols's hierarchical grid to work with
Alpha Five and get Codejock's XtremeCalenderPro to work with
Alpha Five, and for the cherry on top, get a modern tab control --
what a development tool we would have!

Think of it: Alpha applications could look like store bought dresses instead of
          home sewn ones.

            For sake of completeness,

here's the link that Pierre mentioned above, more geared to developers than
            end users:
