Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Selecting specific records in grandchild table

I have a set structured as so:

    Table: tblPatient
    Fields: pt_ID(N), Name(C), Age(N), Sex(C)
    Indexes: pt_ID

    Table: tblInjury
    Fields: pt_ID(N), inj_ID(N), injury(C), inj_date(D)
    Indexes: pt_ID, inj_ID

    Table: tblFollowup
    Fields: inj_ID(N), clin_ID(N), fu_date(D), df(N), pf(N)
    Indexes: inj_ID, clin_ID

The tables are related in a set like this:

    tblPatient -- (pt_ID) --> tblInjury -- (inj_ID) --> tblFollowup

    Both child tables are one-to-many.

I would like to produce a single record for each injury with all data from Injury, all data from Patient and only one record from the followup table which has the data from the latest office visit (fu_date). What is the best way to accomplish this? My goal is to export this data to an excel file which I can load in my stats program.

    Thank you for your help.

not saying this is the best way. But it is a way.

check out the reportset set and the export operation which is attached to it.

      Hi David,

Have a look at Summarize Operation. It is very powerful in what it can do.

Also consider the use of a temp table for your stats reports. This can be done with a routine of Summarize and Posting operations.

I have one report that analyses work in progress and the billings and receipts for the last 7 days. It involves over 30 operations to get the data into the one temp table and can be re-run for any selected date.

Thanks, Tim and Keith. I think this would be fairly easy IF I knew at run-time what index or sort order the table was in when I make a set.

I can tell a set to do a on-to-one match using the "last" record in the child, but I have no idea what the "last" record is ... last recno, last date?
Same with an update operation. if I knew the records in the child table were sorted ascending by date, I could simply fetch through records updating the single record each time with the next child and it would leave me with the latest date in the master record.

Is there any way to know?

Create another set in which Injury is the parent table.

Tried that, but don't know the best way to attach just the latest follow-up record to that injury record.

If I understand you correctly, and you only want to select the most recent follow up, you need to reverse your set:

              tblFollowup [1:1] tblInjury [1:1] tblPatient

                peter,

I figured I needed to do that, but I have numerous follow-up records and only want to select the latest date. . I don't even know what order the records are in before I define the set.

                Thanks,

                  David,

You can sort the set on injury date (or reverse sort). You can also query the patient in the 1:1 set, see all the follow ups, and select the one you want.
