Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Cancel Minimize Form to Task Bar

In any form I would like to be able to cancel the minimize screen to task bar.

I've checked the forum and cannot find an answer. (bad search technique?)

    1. I changed the database properties and checked the Turn Off min/max/restore/system

    2. Changed form properties:
    Window - unchecked minimized button
    Menus - view- none

I have the cancel for the big red X working fine.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Alan

      Alan,
      If you have
      checked the Turn Off min/max/restore/system
      AND
      Window - unchecked minimized button
      how can someone
      minimize screen to task bar
      ?????

Tell us how would someone do this and then maybe a solution can be given......

Re: Cancel Minimize Form to Task Bar

        Mike,

        Thanks for the reply.

With all the named options unchecked I can still minimize Alpha from a Form to the task bar.

Placing cancel() on the CanExit event stops the user from closing Alpha, I would like to do the same type of thing for the minimize button.

The reason I want to do this is because my system allows customers to access information from a touch screen but I do not want them to be able to minimize Alpha to get access to the desktop.

        Regards

        Alan

          Alan,
Exactly how are you able to minimize the form?? Then if it is something that should not be able to do with the correct settings unchecked/checked, it could be a bug. But without knowing how you are doing it leaves me in the dark at least! :)

Alan, I think you're going to have to remove the system menu and pretty much work with the form in dialog mode, maximized.

              Mike,

I minimize the form by selecting the - option located at the top right of the screen i.e before the reduce form size and the big Red X options.

              Tom,

Removed the system menu and set the form to maximize but still can minimize Alpha. Will look at the dialog option.

I am thinking that something might be broken Alan---I no longer have v10, but in v9 when I uncheck the Minimize and/or the Maximize in properties (leaving the system menu), close the form and reopen, both the Minimize and Maximize buttons are disabled.

Re: Cancel Minimize Form to Task Bar

Mike, I think he wants to keep the form open AND he wants to keep Alpha Five maximized. i.e. both the form window and the Alpha Five window, though this wasn't clear from his first posts...

Yep--and now can see the issue I believe.....the form's Minimize button can be disabled, but when maximized, Alpha still maintains on its main menu bar a button to minimize the form......never noticed that before and it should not be there IMO.

                      Mike, Tom,

                      Many thanks to you both.

Opening the form as a Form Dialog does the trick, now I need to follow the trail so that opening other customer access forms and their return are all opened in Form Dialog mode.
