Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Refresh field contents when form loads?

I have a form with a primary table on it and a tabbed object with an embedded browse on it. On the tabbed object, there is a embedded browse (child table) and a field object below the browse that displays information from the same child table that I did not want to include in the browse, even though it is in the same child table as the one in the browse.

The field is updating when I move to a new row in the embedded browse as it should; however, when the form first displays, the field is not showing the value from the table. Instead, it just shows the name I assigned to the field. As soon as I move to a new row in the browse it updates correctly.

What do I need to do to make this field show the contents of the field from the child table when it first displays?

    For clarity,

there is a form (primary table fields on it)
tabbed object on the bottom of the form
embedded browse on the first page of the tabbed object
a label and field object on the first page of the tabbed object below the browse

    I tried:

"reported" is the name of the field object.

    topparent.tabbed1.reported.refresh()

and put this in the "OnInit" of the browse, but it didn't work.

I've tried everything I could possibly think of and I'm wondering if the problem is that I'm trying to do this in the "OnInit" of the Browse. However, I'm moving the record to the last record in the table so that the most current entry is selected, so I think I have to do this there.

I think the correct code should be:

    :applications:reported.text = ????

Those are the actual names of the form and field.

I also wonder if the problem is that this is a TIME field. Do I need to do some conversion from the table value to display it on the field object?

Another observation. As soon as I click on the REPORTED field, it refreshes and shows the time value.

      Problem solved.

      1. I moved the following code from the "OnInit" of the Browse to the "OnActivate" of the form.

      2. I did have to convert the time field value to a character using the following code:

      :applications:reported.text = convert_type(table.current(4).reported,"C")

That did it. Everything is working perfectly.

This shouldn't happen and I don't have v10 to replicate or figure out exactly what's happening, so all I could suggest here is few possible work-arounds:
1-Put the refresh script in the OnFetch or OnActivate event of the form, or
2-Put the same field on the form itself (in addition to the first page of the tab object) and hide it, Or
3-In the OnActivate event of the form, activate the first row of the embedded browse.

Yes, they did. You could have saved me a bunch of time and experimenting though. Thanks for the post and you were definitely right-on!
