Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Does this happen to you?

When I click on a button in a browse on any row other than the row which has focus, it is the row with focus which opens. I would think one should not have to give focus to the row first before clicking the button. In other words, row 1 has focus; click a button in any other row and the row with focus opens.

Not the way it should work??

    Thanks,

    Hi Ken,

I think we need a little more detail of exactly what the button is, ie. What is behind it and what is meant to happen when you press it?

The last time I pressed the button, my computer jumped off the desk!!!!

      Hi Keith,

There are 5 columns in the browse, the 1st 2 contain data fields and the last 3 contain the buttons, Edit, Print & Email. Of course, because of the mapping problem between v10 and Win7, that one does not work.

It's pretty straight forward. Create a browse, use one data field and another field/column for a button. I created a 'Dummy' field in the table and used that field to hold the button. Create the button by right clicking on the column and select 'Edit Display Format' and press the 'Edit Display Format' button to create the button for the column. You can leave the button as default.

Now go to the browse events and insert the code to perform the action, whatever action you want, print, email, inspect, etc. Save and close, open the browse and see what happens. Click on the button in any row other than the row which has focus. Does it do what it's supposed to do with the data in the row in which you pressed the button or does it process the data in the row which has focus?

      Thanks,

        Ken,
Works fine for me (see attached). This also highlights the variable refreshing that the 2736-3523 patch notes outline as being corrected.

          Works very nicely, Mike.

What I have found is if you go back to edit the event another function is added to the original code. So it worth checking Alpha has not added the extra code which is now empty. It may be worth to delete all the code there and start over.

I needed to open another form from the browse, so I let Alpha create all the code with the Genie and just insert it.

Just a FYI in case someone tries this in prior versions that allow browse buttons....it does not work correctly in v8 or v9....always shows the prior browse row that was in focus. :)

              Hi Mike,

Your zip got me to thinking. I was reminded that the form which contains the browse is built on a set. Thus, after doing some trouble shooting, I found the problem to be in the linking field.

              Thank you.
