Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Irregular Behavior in Form

I am getting some irregular behavior in a form based on a set. I have attached a demo zip file. It's all fairly simple, however when I go into Official Visit and enter a new date in the browse, I cannot tab out of the browse to the rest of the form. Also, if I change some peice of data in the form, the form either hangs or does not permit the change.

    Any ideas are welcome!

    Hi Charles,

I think you have your Set, not set up correctly. To put it another way, I would not have done like that.

The Date should be in the Parent table. Think of an Invoice with Date and All Child items for each Visit details!!

    Skype me if you can.

I opened in a5v9 and didn't have any trouble - but I didn't do too much.

      try it in v9.

Charles I see the behavior you're reporting (with vers 10). I restricted enters through the browse object and still could not "tab out of" the browse control. Looks like a bug. May be related to the fact that the browse only has a single column.

I see you have a table and a set with identical names. While I don't know if that's related to what we're seeing, I suggest to you this is not prudent.

Thanks Tom. I'm in the midst of trying some other things, such as a dialog box to prompt for the date and making the second browse read-only.

          I'll let you know.

Charles, I'm not sure it's a bug. Just haven't seen it before.

I see the same behavior in vers 9 and vers 8.

When I used an embedded browse I typically have it positioned last in tab order, so I don't recall ever trying to "tab out of the browse" to other fields in the same record.

              Tom,

Well tabbing out, seems to be the least of my worries. If I simply add a record in the Visitdate browse, it reacts strangely. It jumps to the top of the browse and then if you do enter a date, then go over and try to change the ratings, they will not change.

It must be something in the form or browse, because in the raw set, it works fine.

Do you see what I am talking about?

                Re: Irregular Behavior in Form

The new visitdate is "jumping" because you've defined a sort order for the browse that places the records in order with the oldest at the bottom and the newest (most recent) at the top.

                  Re: Irregular Behavior in Form

I suppose that another way of doing this would be to design a form previous to this form where the user could put in the name of the lodge and the Visitdate, then go to the "Details" form.

A definite workaround, but a strange happening.

It's the set itself Tom. Try the other form I included which is based on the one dbf. That one seems to work fine.

A bug that needs to be reported, in your professional opinion?

Charlie, now I'm lost. What specific aspect of this are you thinking should be reported?
