Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

3- This are text labels, not objects that will be called for another purposes like table fields), try it when designing a form.
4- I don't know if it is an annoyance or a bug... but if the procedure says select the fields you want to align then right click over the ruler to get the align options, and you do that and alpha behaves different for me that is a bug.

Live Preview? Are you referring to the Web Application Server? If so, you are in the wrong area of the forum. If desktop, it works for me.

If you talking about the displayed text on a button or the displayed text of a text object on a form, it might not take international characters either. Layouts (Forms, Browses, Mail Labels, Reports and Letters) contain probably some of the oldest code within Alpha, and I doubt if Alpha has modified that code a lot over time. Thus it may not support the international character set either. Caveat Emptor. You can use HTML objects on forms, and that will definitely display international text.

It does seem to do as you state. So report it as a bug. But it is not a showstopper by any means.

However, you can just go up to menu bar and align the selected objects through the options there, which is the way I've normally done it.

        Re: Beware builds past 2736-3523

I know there are other ways to achieve that, but if that is programmed to do so and it is not doing it, then let's tell the programmers at alpha that something is wrong, if they provide that way of doing it it is to use it. There is a video posted yesterday talking about setting languages using the tag method (<a5:r>"object"</a5:r>) i'll try that one then, but is a very time consumer when I only want to create it in Spanish. the calculated expression is the same field dragged it to the footer of that section, the genie pops up and ask me what value I want and I select TOTAL OF THE FIELD. All this issues are occurring on the desktop version.

          Re: Beware builds past 2736-3523

          Hi all,

I thought I would try out the latest build since i'm still using build 2607 3506 going back to October 2009 so cannot establish which build introduced this bug. Was shocked to find this 'Unhandled Error' appearing again in V10 because have not experienced this since moving from V9.

Two simple Alpha Sports tables linked one to one when saving a child record Alpha locks up throwing up an error. OK in my older builds but the latest build is not good.

Can someone else check the attachment and confirm this please then let me know your build number so that I can report this again as a definite bug.

          Michael

for what its worth I am using the latest build and I note that the majority of problems happen on my vista OS not XP.

              Hi Michael,

              Alpha Five Version (Registered): 10
              Build: 2787
              Addins: 3538

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

I can confirm I also get Unhandled. Once I have got the message I cant enter a new vendor name.

Running the same app at the same time in V9, no problems. Even when I got the error message in V10.

                Michael,

I am running the latest build and I see no problems doing as you say with your example. I am not entering a new item or vendor...I am just navigating to a product and putting the form into change mode and then changing the vendor name. I hit your save button...no issues.

                Regards,

                  Michael,

I wanted to ask if you had a special need in this app to have your tables linked the way they are?

Typically you would see those two types of tables linked on vendor id not product id.

                  Typical Product table might be:

ProdUIDf - Prodcut Unique ID field
ProdPNf - product part number field
                  ProdDescf - product description field
VendIDf - Vendor ID Field --- Linked one to one with vendor tbl

                  Typical Vendor table might be:

VendUIDf - Vendor Unique ID field
VendIDf - Vendor ID field -- Linked one to one with vendor tbl
                  VendNMf - Vendor Name Field
                  VendAddrf - Vendor Add Field

The 2 tables would be be linked on the VendIDf field (one to one). That way you can have one vendor entry in the products table linked to multiple records. In the design in your example, you would have to enter a new duplicate vendor in the vendor table for each product you sold in the products table for that vendor.

Then again...you may have a reason for the structure in your example....just wanted to offer an observation.

                  Regards,

                  Jeff

This setup is only to highlight the problem, in the real world i have parent records that need a one to one child record adding to the parent on the same form. This has worked OK for me for years in all other versions and builds up to the recent builds.

                    Code:

Try entering a vendor name then save
