Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tab Headings Disappear

Has anyone experienced tab headings disappearing when choosing between them.

I have a multi-tabbed form (7 tabs) with a lot of graphincs associated in each of the views. I use a lot of colour and graphics in the fields and the backgrounds.
I find that in some instances the tabs don't repaint when choosing between them. They still exist and when clicking in that invisible area, they'll reappear.

At first I thought it was the graphic cards in the laptops the employees were using, but I'm also running the program on a very powerful manchine using high-end graphics card and the same thing occurs.

    What could be causing that.

Hate to be the one to say it but someone has to! :)

Several users here really cannot stand the Tabbed form....and even though not all have issues with it such as what you are experiencing (and many have), many choose not to use it for anything "fancy" or intensive as when it is used like this the issues seem to be more prevalent.

Many go instead to a form with buttons that mimic tabs....I believe even AlphaSports has now gone this route as well (maybe not intentional but sure seems to coincide with the tabbed interface problems of late). Buttons do have many more possibilities to utilize as well.

I could be wrong but I think Alpha Sports is so old that it was originally built before there was such a thing as tabbed forms and it was just never updated. (I suppose I should have checked but didn't. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)

Hate to disagree w. Mike, but...

There is nothing wrong w. tabbed forms (since v5 at least) - except possibly using transparent style. That has caused problems in the past for me too. If your tabs are very busy w. lots of objects - create subforms w. your objects and place the subforms on each tab. I never had any problems, period, following those two caveats.

          Re: Tab Headings Disappear

          Cal,
Version 8's AlphaSports for sure had tabs. I think in the last rendition of AlphaSports it was changed to buttons.

          Peter,
I have not had as many problems as others with tabs....but starting in v8 when more aesthetics were added for forms/browses (like transparency, gradient,...), bleed through was a big issue for many--seem to even remember a work-around for one tab issue was to place a text box on each tab pane (or something similar!?). In development I noticed many more issues than when actually deployed (a GOOD thing!) such as disappearing tabs, blank tabs, and just plain ole "not working quite right" cases! :)

I think in this case issues are somewhat more dependent on the specific usage/application than other issues....some experience problems and others don't.

My main point here I guess Chuck is to not give up on something that may have a minor issue in development as a matter of course---if it is sporadic, and a database compact does help most times, then maybe test it in a runtime and see how it acts....it may be fine.....but using buttons is a very viable course of action as well as what Peter outlined!

          So many options...
          Mike
