Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    What to do with this loop

    Hi All

    Can anybody tel me what is wrong with this code?
    It does not seem to step through the table

    dim primTable as p
    dim qry as P
    dim vcurrentrec as c
    Debug(1)
    primTable = table.open("delsess")
    primtable.fetch_first()
    While .not. primtable.fetch_eof()
    vcurrentrec = primTable.Delegateoid
    query.description = "ActivitySheet"
    query.order = "DelegateOID"
    query.filter = "delegateoid = VAR->vcurrentrec"
    query.options = ""
    qry = primtable.query_create()
    nrecs = qry.records_get()
    IF (nrecs = 0) then
    qry.drop()
    query.order = ""
    query.filter = ""
    END
    Else
    msgbox("Message","The delegate OID is "+vcurrentrec)
    '--------------
    end if
    primtable.fetch_next()
    End While
    primtable.close()

    Thanks

    Re: What to do with this loop

    Peter,

    I'm not understanding your intent.

    You open "delsess".
    You fetch the first record and obtain the delegateoid to a variable.
    You then query the table to see if the delegateoid that you just found exists.
    How could it not?

    What are you trying to do?
    There can be only one.

      Re: What to do with this loop

      The script only processes one record because after the query is run for the first record, fetching the next record fetches the eof marker.

      Code:
      dim primTable as p
      dim qry as P
      dim vcurrentrec as c
      Debug(1)
      primTable = table.open("delsess")
      primtable.fetch_first()
      WHILE .not. primtable.fetch_eof()
      	vcurrentrec = primTable.Delegateoid
      	query.description = "ActivitySheet"
      	query.order = "DelegateOID"
      	query.filter = "delegateoid = VAR->vcurrentrec"
      	query.options = ""
      	qry = primtable.query_create() 'only one record is now selected
      	nrecs = qry.records_get()
      	IF (nrecs = 0) THEN
      		qry.drop()
      		query.order = ""
      		query.filter = ""
      		END
      	ELSE
      		msgbox("Message","The delegate OID is "+vcurrentrec)
      		'--------------
      		[COLOR="Red"]qry.drop()
      		query.order = ""
      		query.filter = ""[/COLOR]'release the query in every case
      	END IF
      	primtable.fetch_next()
      END WHILE
      primtable.close()
      There can be only one.

        Stan
        Thank you for the feed back and my apologies for being so vague. This was my first attempt at creating a transpose of delegate activities. Here is my modified version. I am getting Table not in change or edit mode" in inner loop I do terminate the change mode with "tbl.change_end(.T.) "

        dim primTable as p
        dim SecTable as p
        dim qry as P
        dim vcurrentrec as c
        'debug(1)
        primTable = table.open("delgidlist")
        primtable.fetch_first()
        While .not. primtable.fetch_eof()
        'msgbox("Mesage","The delegate Oid from the DelgIDlist "+primtable.delegateOid)
        vcurrentrec = primTable.Delegateoid
        dim tbl as p
        tbl = table.open("delsess")
        tbl.fetch_first()
        tbl.index_primary_put("Stld_Fffffa01")
        query.description = "ActivitySheet"
        query.order = ""
        query.filter = "DelegateOid = VAR->vcurrentrec"
        query.options = ""
        qry = tbl.query_create()
        nrecs = qry.records_get()
        dim vcounter as n
        vcounter = 1
        'msgbox("Records","Records matching in Delsess "+ nrecs)
        While .not. tbl.fetch_eof() ' START INNER LOOP

          Peter, please use code tags to preserve formatting in your posts. This is an option if you used the advanced reply editor. Just surround the formatted code with html code tags. It's a matter of clicking a button. The code you post will then be much much easier to read. As it stands now, left justified, without indents, its something that is very very difficult. Thanks. -- tom

            Re: What to do with this loop

            If I'm reading the script correctly....

            From ELSEif vcounter = 2 through the rest of the inner loop you have

            tbl.change_begin()
            'stuff
            tbl.change_end(.T.)

            but you are trying to change the tposetable

            tPoseTable.Activity2 = tbl.Sessdesc
            tPoseTable.Activity3 = tbl.Sessdesc
            etc.

            Example correction...

            Code:
            tposetable.index_primary_put("DelegateOid")
            	recfound = tposetable.fetch_find(vcurrentrec)
            	IF recfound > 0 THEN
            		msgbox("Counter","The counter number is "+vcounter)
            		[COLOR="Red"]tposetable[/COLOR].change_begin()
            		tPoseTable.Activity2 = tbl.Sessdesc
            		[COLOR="red"]tposetable[/COLOR].change_end(.T.)
            	END IF
            There can be only one.

                  Enter your code with indents.
