Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report link problem

I have a couple of reports where I have an embedded link on a field that when clicked takes me to another report. One one report it works as intended. on another report it is really strange. When I put the mouse over the field it should allow me to click, however it actually does not. I found the the link is actually about three rows down and offset to between the field and its neighbour

Attached is a pic to help explain

Not so easy to do without the rest of the DB which is pretty significant now. I will look at reproducing in a smaller db. One thing to consider is that the report that does the right thing is based an a single table. The one with issues is a set

Does the problem happen on one workstation and not another? Or are you getting this behavior on the same system. I had a similar problem (V9) that seemed to be related to my default printer. When i changed the printer type, the problem went away.

          Re: Report link problem

I gave the printer idea a go, but result was the same. This did lead me to check report page settings and I noted that the page was set to custom instead of A4 which I thought I set. I changed it but it kept going back to custom.

I then played with moving the detail in the group header and I found I could not reduce the height of the group area past a certain point. This point is usually field or line related but I could not see any thing that would stop it. I then remembered that when I initially created this particular report and added fields I dragged the field labels from the detail into the group area. Strangely one label simply disappeared. i thought I might have hit a key that deleted it and thought noting of it. I am now surmising that this field was still there but either invisible or made really small. However a 'select all' did not reveal it and if I deleted all labels and fields in the group header, I still could not reduce its size past an unusual point.

I created a new report based on all the same perameters and there is now no issue. So it was in the end a corruption of some type with the report

            Mark,
Next time you have a field disappear like that and think it still may be present, use the Object Explorer to find it...whether on a form or a report I find it to be the easiest and quickest method of accomplishing this.
