Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    accident delete all records

    Hi All,

    I have an accident delete all records of member.dbf table (250 records).
    Anybody has the best solution to recovery it?
    I checked I have a backup but last backup is yesterday(210 records). It means I will lost 40 records for today. Actually if I restore last backup and re-keyin the 40 records is ok but I need to know the best solution in the future to protect this problem to save time and avoid stop working.

    My first think is create a backup button and backup it during a day any time I want

    Thank you.

    open control panel
    click on the code tab
    click new
    copy and paste this code
    save and run script

    If you have not packed the table, you should get your records back.

    'code starts here
    ''XBasic
    'This script opens the specified table and undeletes records..
    '-----------------------------------------------------------------
    trace.clear()
    dim global quote1 as c
    dim global quote2 as c
    dim global filename as c
    dim global filename2 as c
    dim global recread as n
    dim global recundel as n
    var->quote1=chr(34)
    var->quote2=chr(34)
    var->recread=0
    var->recundel=0
    table_to_undelete = ui_get_file("Open Table to Undelete", "Table(*.DBF)", "","X")

    IF table_to_undelete = "" THEN
    trace.writeln ("Unable to open table")
    trace.writeln ("--------------------------------------")
    goto no_open
    END IF

    var->filename=table_to_undelete
    var->filename2=var->quote1+var->filename+var->quote2
    trace.writeln ("File Name "+ var->table_to_undelete)
    trace.writeln (var->quote1)
    trace.writeln (var->quote2)
    trace.writeln (var->filename)
    trace.writeln (var->filename2)

    tbl = table.open(filename2)

    ' add undelete routine here
    nrecs=tbl.records_deleted() + tbl.records_get()
    trace.writeln ("Total Records "+str(var->nrecs,10))
    trace.writeln ("--------------------------------------")

    deletion_field=tbl.field_get(0)
    for i=1 to nrecs
    var->recread=var->recread+1
    tbl.fetch_goto(i)
    if tbl.is_deleted() then
    tbl.change_begin()
    var->recundel=var->recundel+1
    deletion_field.value_put("-")
    tbl.change_end(.t.)
    end if
    next i

    tbl.close()
    trace.writeln ("Undelete Complete for file "+ table_to_undelete)
    trace.writeln ("Records Read "+str(var->recread,10))
    trace.writeln ("Records Undeleted "+str(var->recundel,10))
    trace.writeln ("--------------------------------------")
    end

    no_open:
    ui_msg_box("Unable to open",tbl_name)
    end

      Re: accident delete all records

      Charlie,

      Thank you for your quick response and the sample code.
      It works perfectly. Do you have new version that shows it's working or progress?
      When I run the script it shows the sand clock. I check Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the Alphafive has no response. I think it's hang for the first time. I stop the script and run it's again and wait until it finished (for 2 minutes)

      Many thanks

        Re: accident delete all records

        Peter, in case you did not know this...

        In addition to Charlie's scripted approach, "undeleting records" is an option on the Utilities menu of the table's right click menu in the control panel.

        Check the help file topic "Undeleting Records" for details.

        As for modifying Charlie's script to display a progress bar, why don't you try adding that yourself? check the help file topic "Waitdialog" for an example and details.

          How to update the application to my end user without effect their database.
          I mean I have desktop application version1 and installed to end user desktop, he key in the data 200 records in invoice_items and later I have desktop application version1.1 (my sample data in invoice_items has only 30 recoreds)

          How can I install new version of application to end user without effect his 200 recoreds, safty and save time to install.

          If I copy all directory, my end user will have my old 30 records.

          Please help me where /what threads I can read it.

          Thanks

            Alpha Five File Types

            The files with the extension

            .dbf, .cdx, and .fpt

            contain the user data. You should not copy these from your computer to a user's computer.
            There can be only one.

              Re: accident delete all records

              Peter, studying the link "Alpha Five File Types" that Stan gave you will help you a lot. You need to learn where your changes are stored. Then you can send the user only the dictionaries that have changed.

                Stan , Tom

                Thank you for your advise very much.
                First, I will copy all old application and data of end user to safe place
                Second, Copy all but excluded .dbf, .cdx, and .ftp to end user's computer
                and if I have modified the calculate field rule of table , I have to run recalculate field rule utility ,right?

                Thanks

                  Re: accident delete all records

                  Right.

                  You will have to do some other work if you add a field a table in to your database. That field will not exist in the user database.

                  Let us wait until you have that problem before we discuss how to handle it.
