Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Input form

This seems too simple for me to have missed in the videos and help files, but I am very frustrated so thanks for your help.

I want to create a form for users to input their information (like 'customers' db in Alpha Sports). I do not want them to see other customers, just input their info and choose a product from a dropdown.

Every form I created browses the records or starts out with the fields pre-populated by the last entry. I just want a blank form.

    Hi Mike,

On the form with the button that is opening the form (say from a Menu form) set the form to open as New Record.

Yes you are right that was toooo simple.

You could additionally set a restriction on the form properties that prevents navigation

That will stop the user saving the record and then being able to view previous entries by using the navigation shortcuts.

        Re: Input form

Thank you both for responding. I wanted to solve this and not bother the forum again, but I have been trying to implement your suggestions all day and am still stumped. For instance in the sample Alpha Sports database when I click on the 'Create a new customer' the form opens pre-populated. I do not see where to modify this. (Double-click to edit Events? Saw that OnPush it called customer_info_form_new). Still when I click on it in working mode, it is pre-populated and when I try to close the box, I get a persistant error 'Shipping address is incomplete ...' It asks me to check 'Same as billing' box' in order to close or move forward. I understand that this is a requirement set up in the form, but when I type in an address, it disappears. You would think that the sample would work effortlessly, so what on earth could I have done?

And the forms I ceated to start with were not called by a menu. I clicked on them on my local machine to open them and they have the data already in them.

The add new invoice button works just fine.

That is the problem, as I suggested to you before open the form with a button on another form, eg. Menu Form. Use Action Script, select Open Form or Browse Layout, click OK. Next you will have a choice of List of Forms or Browse. Select the form you want then click Next. Enter New Record is top of the list, see thumbnail. make sure this is highlighted and click Finish and Finish. Save your form. Now open form with new button in View mode and click on button.

Don't try to do this in AlphaSports as there is code in the Customer Information form that is causing you confusion. Create your own Customer form starting with a blank form.

            Re: Input form

Thanks for your patience, Keith. I will try that. I saw that option of 'Enter new record' and tried to apply it to my custom form, but I must have done it wrongly. I will let you know if I get it done correctly. Thanks.

Best to start your own thread when you're not answering or commenting on the current question.

The more details you provide, the better answer you will get.

                every time i update it
You probably know what this means, we don't have any way to tell what you mean by update.
                There can be only one.

Build a set with only one table in it. Then build your forms, reports, and others based on the set and not the table.

Then when you import the data from access, the table will be rebuilt and the set won't. There fore all of your objects will remain.
