Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Created Custom Label - All Standard labels disappeared!

I have several labels, Avery style. I created a custom sized label and when I did, all of my standard labels sizes have disappeared.

I restarted A5. I deleted the custom label size. I reinstalled A5. No change.

All standards sizes are gone. THE LIBRARY OF LABELS IS GONE.

When I preview the existing labels, it complains ...
Warning: Standard label size "Avery 5895" not found!

    This is a web application.

I had same problem a while back. See this thread (Under Version 8 threads) Justus found solution that worked fine for me.

4:30am ... laying in bed ... trying to figure out how I killed all those label definitions ... and the solution mysteriously appears thanks to fellow label victims.

Thanks, fellas, now I might get some sleep.

OH! I'm running Windows 7 so the file location was a little different.

Carl, when Morpheus releases you, how about giving us the Windows 7 details? Thanks.

I could not see the AppData in Windows Explorer under Win7, even though I am Administrator. It starts in the USERS folder.

I use OPUS, a wonderful step up from Windows Explorer and it showed the hidden and seemingly unnamed folders, although the name is visible if you open PROPERTIES.

          C:\Users\Carl-Win7\AppData\Roaming\Alpha Software\Alpha Five Version 10
is where I found it. Carl-Win7 is my name for that machine.

The A_SHARED stuff was down there, and once I eliminated it, the Library of standard labels returned, just as it did under XP.

I'm pretty tired of OS software that insists on hiding folders from me. Hey, it's my machine, bought and paid for. If I want to hose it up by renaming or deleting something, I promise not to blame MS or A5.

And God-Bless PRDevane and Justus for saving my sanity. Us software types have a guilty streak. It reminds me of a time I was giving a demonstration to a handful of power-company programmers. I had my back to them and hit the enter key and just as I hit it, the lights in the room went off. My first thoughts were "How in hell did I do that." Turns out they were union people and their end-of-day was exactly 5:00pm. As the minute approached they filed out of the room and the last guy hit the OFF switch. That was the last time I worked overtime (I was being paid per diem) for those twits.

Re: Created Custom Label - All Standard labels disappeared!

I notice that the Library of Avery forms is far from complete from the current list of cards, labels, etc, from

If the Library list isn't updated periodically by Alpha5, how and where might I be able to add to the standard library of labels?

I'd like to add business card sizes, which are Avery 28877.

If I add a custom size, I lose my library of labels and I don't want to treat every label as custom when I have the benefit of a standard library of forms.
