Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Lost App!!!!

Started a new App and had to go shopping with my wife. Closed down Alpha. When I came home I went to open up the App I created and received this message:

Could not open or create multi-user-information file c:\BudVsAct.mmf.

    What the heck is this??

Initially I created a directory named c:\BudVsAct which disappeared or was renamed c:\BudVsAct_History which contains:
    form.A5Hist A5 hist file 1KB and
    set.A5hist A5hist file 1KB and nothing else.

I then found a directory named c:\backup which has the following directory structure in it:
    - Sets
    - Mst-Det-Set
    - form which has a bunch of zipped files
    - set which has 4 sub directories named
    - comments
    - definition 0
    - definition 1
    - definition 2

Nowhere do I see my ALB file.

    Am I screwed???

Are you running McAfee? Note problems from last week - google it.

Look in the trash bin to see if there are files to recover.

run the win error checking routine for the disk to see if something can be fixed.

A sense of humor, you have. Al, I'm running and have been running Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 for years and have never experienced a problem with it and Alpha.

Checked the recycling bin and no files are there to recover.

A note: c:\backup has the directory Mst-Det-Set which is the Tables set used in my new App. I have a feeling that all is lost and it's start over time.

            Got it back man....

I performed another search and found all tables under c:\. I believe a rights issue may have occurred - I was not running Alpha with Administrator rights. Somehow it changed.

            1. Renamed c:\BudVsAct_History to c:\BudVsAct and cleared directory.
            2. Deleted c:\backup.
            3. Went into Desktop Icon Alpha 5, Properities and re-set to run app as administrator.
            4. Moved all files from c:\ to c:\BudVsAct
            5. Opened Alpha 5 and ran App and all was fine
            6. Then yelled at my wife.

mmf is not a native file type. Your problem looks more at your system. - Virus or something - do a search for adb files as well - this is the database

I did a google on mmf - got nothing

              What operating system?
What I am seeing here is the files you state are all in the root directory which is unusual.

How did you create the directory c:\BudVsAct? It may be you have note really created this properly and all the files sit in the root directory of C

                Rudy,

                if you meant to type:

Could not open or create multi-user-information file c:\BudVsAct.muf.
Alpha Five is trying to tell you it does not have permission to write to the directory where it expects to find the database. This can happen if the directory does not exist. This can slso happen if the windows user does not have the necessary permissions to write to that folder. Either situation would throw this error.

The fact that the error message does not include a path to a folder on the C: drive suggests to me that there's something wrong with your folder structures.

                  Hi folks,

I figured out the problem prior to your post's and explained the resolution in Application Server v10. I initially created the Incident issue there by mistake.

I meant to type MUF, not MMF. You were spot on Tom.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
